Thinking of going somewhere for mardi gras week.
I've been to Breckenridge, North Carolina, and Gatlingburg.
What are you guys favorite spots to go to? we were thinking maybe Lake Tahoe.

Heavenly is very nice.

Nothing beats Tahoe in my opinion. Got to Squaw Valley in the North Shore. It joined with Alpine Meadows recently so its just freaking huge.

Skiing in the Appalachian's is a waste of money. Go west young man. Vail is one of the best resorts in Colorado. Never skied Tahoe but I hear it's awesome. Might want to check snow levels due to the drought out there. I've heard great things about the Utah resorts as well. I'm going to Keystone in 12 days for a few days on the mountain.

I'm currently at Tamarack in Idaho. About 3 hrs north of Boise. I like the skiing up here better than Colorado. Cheaper, less crowded and the mountains are just as big.

Tahoe is nice. Been there many times as I once lived in Sacramento. Anyway, my favorite place is Boreal Ridge. It is small yes, but you can get there quickly from Truckee or Reno and it is way cheaper than the big places. If you want to go to a bigger place try Kirkwood, great skiing and less crowded. Squaw Valley, Heavenly, and Northstar are all great but pricey and can get extremely crowded, especially on holidays and weekends. In any case, the Tahoe basin has some great snow right now. I am just outside Monterey working and it has been raining here and snowing in the mountains like crazy the past 2-3 weeks. Have a great time....

Tahoe is great but the snow has been sparse there recently. Park city is awesome and easy to get to. I'm headed to Vail in a few weeks, can't wait.

Definitely Steamboat!!! Mountain is set up nice, the base has a lot of options for food and drinks. Not too crowded because it's the farthest resort from Denver so they're are not a lot of day skiiers. And there's a reason the snow is called champagne powder...it is light and fluffy!!

Vail
Back bowls on a powder day is the best powder skiing in Colorado
However, Utah as a whole has the best terrain and snow in the US
ETA: This video of Hitler wanting to ski pow at Vail is fricking great, Hitler wants to ski pow at Vail

Seems like Utah is easy to get to- fly nonstop from MSY and it is a short drive to resorts from the airport.

Boone, NC is absolutely beautiful and it's real close to Appalachian St's campus

Red River, NM is pretty fun for Mardi Gras. Small town and mountain, but its packed with LSU fans and people from Louisiana.

If you are going to ski New Mexico go to Taos or Angel Fire before Red River. The town is cool but the ski mountain is tiny. We are heading up to our place in Angel Fire for New Years, they are getting hammered with snow right now.

thanks for all the insight! I learned how to ski in the App mts, then took a trip to Breckenridge and loved it.
Got the family coming this time so I need something for them to do while I tear up the slopes.
Can't wait to ski again, its been 8-9 years.
