If you think Catholic is in the ghetto you must be the whitest son of a bitch on the planet

With the goofy mentality of BR, how long is it before Catholic's location is considered "the hood"? Hell, it seems like many almost think it is now.
It'll be a while. That area used to be more hood than it is now and it seems like the hoodlum frontier is slowly being pushed farther and farther away from Catholic. The new Government Street project should help big time.

And not a few thousand dollars..
I see that RHS is 8k a year for tuition.
Is that the norm for BR Private schools?

Catholic is right at 10k now

The neighborhood north of CHS had been getting very sketchy through the 90s and first decade of 200s; however, that area is gentrifying (and, as noted, CHS is buying up a lot of houses for possible expansion). The either own, or have right of first refusal, on all houses on the other side of Hearthstone (and possible on those houses on the parallel street on the next block).
The foundation does own the old Westmoreland, which will still be used for parking (since the expanded field has eaten up a lot of spots), but there are a number of ideas of what to do with the space, some of which may include some mixed used development.

They're 3-laning it with bike lanes and some street parking. There will be turn lanes, turn signals, improved sidewalks, and eventually a streetcar line.

That's a pipe dream.

I went to school with Sid - great guy.
Same here Gorilla Ball, grew up in the neighborhood as well. I'm sure we know each other. Although a lot of smartass comments in here by others, a sad day for alums, especially from back when it WAS academically superior to a BRPSS education. Many good memories in and around NBR when it was the Blue Collar area of Baton Rouge. Sucks

Was it a decent school at one time? Sure. Was it ever really even marginally better than an average EBR Public high school? Not really. When Redemptorist was a decent school, the public school any kid who went to Redemptorist could go to was also decent. It was in place for the sizable catholic population in the area who wanted to send their kid to a catholic school. There are no such folks anywhere around there any more.

Paid for courtesy of St George residents.

I heard a rumor a while back, they were offered the land around the Greenwell Springs library for free to rebuild. They turned it down.
Any truth to this?

I probably know both of you (I was a year ahead of Sid) and can't agree more with this statement
RIP RHS

Didn't know you were such an authority on education, Mr. Tittle. We'll agree to differ.

Redemptorist was the working man/blue collar workers private school to send their kids too.

pretty sure that old count of a nun blocked all of their relocation attempts
