Why do texas high school teams only play 80 yd fields?

also the width of the field is not as large...why is this?

Widths are supposed to be regulation, but I've seen some insanely narrow fields to accommodate tracks around the outside.

They only do that for 8-man football which developed in extremely rural areas of Texas for obvious reasons

They play on shorter fields when they play 6-man football in smaller towns.

40-yard line is midfield.

kids spend a lot of time playing video games and whatnot these days so don't have the endurance that we had as children growing up back in the day
