I certainly don't think its as good as company burger and there's better places uptown. But people really hated this place, and I didn't see it. I know one of my friends who couldn't stand it is lurking this thread right now

I thought it was okay, I've been twice. I'd recommend going during happy hour
If I'm wanting a burger I'm going to cowbell or high hat.

Company Burger may be the most overrated in the city. Why go there when you can walk two blocks over to High Hat?

Maybe it's the fact that a place called charcoal's doesn't even cook their burger on charcoal. When asked why they would name it charcoal's.. it's named after his dog! WTF
Posted on 12/15/14 at 3:01 pm to AFistfulof$
Yes the place is named after one of the owner's dogs. Charcoal Coal Hunter. It is by far the best hunting dog I ever known in my life. He is a 13 year old black lab that is the color of Charcoal who never loses a duck. Who cares if they don't cook their burgers on charcoal, if you want charcoal cooked burgers go to bud's boilers. Blaine one of the owners is paying the ultimate respect to his best friend his dog and naming his restaurant after him. Just because people's perception is they have Charcoal grills it shouldn't upset y'all. I would think people living in the sportsmen's paradise would respect the fact the an avid outdoor's man named a restaurant after his hunting dog. If you want to try exotic game that you can't get anywhere else in New Orleans go here. The people running it truly do care. I am close to this because Blaine who's dog it is, is one of my best friends. He is the person who got me into to duck hunting 5 years ago and Coal short for Charcoal which is what we call him retrieved my first duck I shot. Just give them a chance and not go in there with any preconceived notions.

Would you rather a Charcoal burger or a La Petite Grocery burger?

What's the deal with the yelp responses?

I'm really not sure. I had company once and wasn't very impressed.

On the same level but id give the edge to LPG because of the fries.

This is the sort of shite I'm talking about that I see y'all posting on Yelp that strikes me as a huge turnoff. I suppose perhaps, it's working for you, but by the number of people I see in your place whenever I drive by, I'm a bit suspicious.
Good luck, I guess.

I've entered the Charcoal's. Still waiting on friends to meet me. So far so good: the $3 Fat Tire draft is ice cold and the house music is impeccable (Sam Cook, Wilson Pickett, Fats, Four Tops).

Charcoal's was a glorified Fat Cow in BR. Ok but nothing to brag about. The positives: music, balcony, and fries.

Frickin' this. Still no justification for the overcooked burgers? I paid $26 for a well done burger (ordered medium rare), fries, and a beer. I'm getting out of Cowbell, High Hat, and LPG for a few bucks less and their burger will all be significantly better.
And I don't think that Company is THAT overrated. With a few notable exceptions on this board, most people I know slot it below the three I listed, which is about where it deserves to be, IMO

Oh dear.
ETA: Still scratching my head over naming a burger restaurant Charcoal and then being amazed that patrons are confused that you don't cook over Charcoal. I get that he's your beloved puppy dog, but damn.
Just read all of their Yelp responses. Poor guys don't get it. :(
