Just basic elitism or is there a legitimate reason?

They aren't there to play football, they're there to play school.

Short answer...the Ivy League doesn't allow its teams to participate in either, and limits their regular season games to 10 games.

The mission of a university is to educate their students not provide entertainment to alumni or worse people who have never attended the school.

Ivy league does it right.

Because their mission is to deliver the highest quality education and football isn't important in the big picture.

I believe the stated reason is that they don't want the season to extend into the final exam period.

Ivies had a perfect bell-curve distribution in their conference standings:
0-7
1-6
2-5
3-4
4-3
5-2
6-1
7-0
