She's 32 and has to start from scratch with about 5 good baby making years left.
After reading this thread further, there are some really selfish assholes. OP may well be making the right move ending the relationship but it doesn't negate the damage already done and this breakup will frick her up even further.

I think the reason we turned on him is because the OP's topic was titled "I'm Going To Break A Girl's Heart Tonight", as if he was bragging. He should have titled it, "I have to do something difficult tonight." I maybe would have had a little more sympathy.

No it won't. It will end with a loveless and hostile relationship that are going to frick up any hypothetical kids he may have. Sorry, but not everyone should be a parent. This is awful advice.

Okay I'm not buying it. There's either another woman or she's a psycho? Which one is it?
My take on it: The sex was good, but variety is the spice of life. After ten years OP is looking at the prospect of forever and it cannot be put off any longer. There is a good possibility that OP finds this chick to be his intellectual inferior to such an extent that living together would be painful.
OP, did I win the prize?

Yea, not my intention at all.

Oh... one more thing... as long as you're making huge life-altering decisions, I say take it one step further.
Consider moving.
Seriously. Not a joke. It will help get her out of your head, and you out of hers. And you could probably use a change of scenery and a new dating pool not contaminated by your relationship.
Think about it.

Probably not. He's been with her 10 years. He's just having a freak out.

OP will dump her. Bang around for 6 months. Get back with her and get married. Dude barely got to experience his 20's as a single dude. That's what this is about.

And you won't have to see her getting railed by better looking dudes.
Avoidance is the best coping mechanism.

Feel like I'm missing something here.
Just realize all of a sudden you don't love her or you aren't compatible?

This. Is the worst idea ever. This guy just gave this girl 10 years of her life (in her prime) and you're idea is to get in and out? I wish one of the girls was around here to smack you.

Yep. Well over half the town is going to despise you at this point, and take her side on this. You will certainly lose friends over this, since I'm sure quite a few of your friends who actually have balls are going to tell you that dragging her around like that for 10 years was just plain fricked up. I can understand doing it in college, but in your 30s? Grow up.

I haven't read the thread, but when my Dad split with my Mom, he did it via a singing telegram by a guy in a gorilla suit. It was also in the middle of her workplace. It's taken 30 years, but she's starting to see the humor in it. Why not?

I will read this entire thread, but before I do, my thoughts are a little different than what I've read thus far.
Both of you share blame here. It's your fault for leading her on and it's her fault for not realizing that you were dragging your feet about this. She must be low on self-esteem for letting you pull this.
Oh well, learning experience on both sides. Just remove all cutlery from your house before you drop the news on her.

Those that have been critical of the OP, what would you propose he do - go forth and marry her?
I think that the OP is mistaken about what marriage actually is and about what makes a good marriage.
If he has been with this girl since she was 22, he has grown up with her, known her, and loved her. They could be happily married, based on that evidence alone.
Now, she may be crazy all the sudden. He may have had some epiphany I don't know about. Makes it hard to judge the case as if it's not hard enough to judge anyway from a distance anyway.
However, if he doesn't have a really good reason that is NEW, then he's a dick for backing out now IMO. Not saying he shouldn't do it. Just saying he's a dick.
Has a specific reason been given? "I'm not feeling it anymore" is not legit IMO. Feelings are fleeting.

Nope. He didn't move in with her and save god knows how much money on rent/mortgage costs. He clearly can't stand being around her for too long or else he would have done this years ago. She was just a good lay, and that's basically it.

Do you have cop friends? If so go buy a clunker car as a "project", then wreck it and light it on fire and when it blows up, get your shite and leave town. Have cop friend write a fake death report...say there was nothing left of you.
