im interested to see if this thing will actually land upright. Apparently they are unsure of the surface that it is landing on, and if it falls over the mission is a failure.

Yikes.

These people amaze me so much, not only are they doing rocket science but they are doing it all in a foreign language.

Bruce Willis and NASA aren't impressed.

They are making a statement right now. The lander is on the surface. Landing gear has been moved inside the comet and they are sitting on the surface and the machine is talking to them.

Did I hear the guy right? They're talking to someone inside the craft? So this is a manned mission?

What's sad is that people don't realize or appreciate how incredible this is. We just landed a spacecraft on a fricking asteroid/comet. That's amazing.

not only that, but we didn't really know what the surface of the comet would be like until we got there. so Rosetta pretty much had to transport the lander there, then try to pick a spot where philae could land, then drop it right into that spot

It is hard to imagine that the spacecraft launched 10 years ago and just landed.

They're referring to the computer system inside Philae, the lander.

No, this is just a probe. Unless I missed something, it's not manned at all.

I hope so. What's that picture in the background where they're talking?

No. They are referring to the probe released by Rosetta spaceship called "Philae".

From their website

quote:

On 12 November, Rosetta’s Philae probe is set to make the first-ever landing on a comet when it touches down on Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

looks like an artist's rendering. they'd have to send two probes to get a picture of the probe landing on the comet

Yeah, and we're just now hearing about this.

United and Delta are flooding them with inquiries on how they got there so fast.

Hard to imagine the exhilaration those scientists are probably feeling right now.

This is bad arse. But is the surface the scariest environment imaginable? Because that's all you'd need to say.

America needs to step the frick up. I really hate what has become of NASA.

this opinion is shortsighted. I like the idea of countries working in cooperation for these missions. Space exploration is for the betterment of all humanity, not some patriotic garbage.

Yeah, after I posted that I saw the whole picture of it landing...so obviously it isn't an actual picture.
