Haha, appreciate it. If things don't work out in BR or if I get jealous of my buddy making more than me I'll definitely be looking to get to houston.

I would not try and start my commercial career in BR......you'll get experience on a bunch of small shite jobs.
You need to get out and get some experience.

Agreed. New Orleans is just down the road with a much better market. Houston is a couple orders of magnitude better than NOLA. DO the math.

Not to dove-tail into a whole different conversation, but Houston is one of the best, if not the best markets for construction in the US.

Meh...depending on what side of the coin. I've made a good living with it but I also have never been afraid of other markets and do quite a lot in San Antonio and down in the Valley as well as all over LA.

Yeah, its crazy how much opportunity there is there. Truth is, one of the main reasons I stayed was because my girlfriend still has a year of school left and that my grandmother, who im very close to, has lung cancer. But like i said, I have a strong feeling Ill be in houston one day.

Yep. Houston is a huge, expanding market with many old and new firms all competing for plentiful work. Baton Rouge is a small market with tons of old firms competing over shite jobs via bribes, kickbacks, and the good 'ol boy network. There really isn't enough commercial work in BR to sustain the many commercial companies that reside there, and they only manage to fend off out of state competition through corruption and collusion. Plus, add the fact that they have a surplus of young, inexperienced engineering graduates and you have a very shitty place to start a commercial degree.
Houston is the opposite, but so is BR for industrial construction. That's where I am and I'm making great money, but work too many hours to have a life, and part of that makes me a

This was a concern for me as well. I was offered two positions in Houston, but turned them down for positions in BR. Since they all paid about the same, I took the one that would allow me to be closest to her. I'm really just bummed I didn't get any of those positions in Lafayette I was up for. More sad banana

Yeah man, wasnt easy to turn down the offer I had. Fortunately i was able to receive another offer that is pretty nice.

Yes my first internship was in the field. My second one was on the office side of things.
