Are you even so much as hinting that a person with a documented 101° fever, fatigue, and with her given contact and travel history should have been allowed to board another aircraft?
Well its still ridiculously unlikely that the disease spreads even when a person is running a temp. Which is why the CDC let that Dallas nurse get on a plane.
And guess what. Nobody got Ebola.

quote:And there it is in a nutshell.
The lying schmo Dr. Spencer (in NYC who went bowling, rode the subway etc and lied to police about it) was forbidden from returning to his job at the hospital where he was employed, for 3 weeks.....hmmmm...... our soldiers are being quarantined and kept from their families and others for 3 weeks....hmmmmm.....I think ALL OF US Americans deserve the same protection from these people like the a-hole nurse in Maine.
In physical science every action generates an equal and opposite reaction. In social science otoh, reaction may or may not be equal. In this case, the CDCs initial actions were dumb. The general reaction as expected is perhaps even dumber. All very predictable.

Is that what you are saying?
I reported the facts. I quoted a first hand account of what happened to back that up. Your statement that she was running a fever "upon arrival" is false. Like a lot of other things you say.

Then why are people freaking out over this?

Should a potential ebola carrier have been allowed to board an airliner after registering a temperature of 101° in customs?

WRONG!
Well I guess you know more than my friend thats a doctor and the doctor they interviewed on NBC's nightly news this week.
Or think you do at least

They're not stupid, just concerned. Many realize that viruses mutate and that provides a foundation for uncertainty. Many just want to err on the side of caution.

I thought the story was that she had 2 normal temps registered but then registered a 101* temp after panicking in a hot customs room for over an hour.

considered only temperatures above 101.5 to be medically relevant.
In the right context, thats not true. I mean, body temperature doesn't go from 37 to 38.5 instantaneously.

Yeah, you totally never said anything of the sort.

Question: Have some healthcare workers returning from Africa contracted Ebola?
Answer: Yes
Conclusion: Why not take the prudent step of requiring a 21 day isolation period for these people?
The bike ride may not have posed a threat to anyone, but either you have a 21 day isolation period or you don't. We've already seen people riding the subway, going bowling, going to a restaurant, etc, so leaving it up to the discretion of the individual healthcare worker doesn't always result in wise decisions.
You hate freedom and you love big government. Your position is clearly understood.

But you know, a bunch of liberal elitist hacks.
quote:I have to admit that this was the first I heard of it and had, like NC_Tigah, believed that people were contagious the minute they got a fever as well. Surprised it is not pushed by the other experts as much.
Furthermore, we now know that fever precedes the contagious stage, allowing workers who are unknowingly infected to identify themselves before they become a threat to their community.

experts have also stated that 15% NEVER get a fever. So they won't know they're sick until they're sick...and hopefully that won't be sitting on a crowded subway and puking on someone or sneezing on someone.
