I'm from Belle Chasse, LA.

I live in Georgia. I say I am from New Orleans.

Someone once told me that if it takes you longer than 20 minutes to get to your house from Uptown New Orleans, you can't claim New Orleans.

This

If you are far away from Louisiana and someone asks (and you don't live in New Orleans) just say you're from "near New Orleans".

I think it is only acceptable to say that you live in New Orleans if you actually live in the city. I live in one of the communities in your list and that is what I have on my Facebook profile. Why pretend to be something that you are not?!

Pretty sure most of those who moved out to Kenner had the same motivations

Maybe. I'm Texan. My family brilliantly decided to leave Austin right when the tech boom was kicking off to take government jobs in NOLA.

Anything on the immediate west and east bank is new orleans to me. I'm from kenner though so maybe I'm biased.

Funny thing about us people from Kenner. We consider the westbank, Chalmette and Belle Chasse to be "way out there" when we are the furthest outlying of the listed southshore suburbs.

Everything is so far, because we are so far out.

Far and away, THIS. C'mon, Kenner as New Orleans?! Please. Im sure people claim San Fran living in Oakland to make it sound like they're living somewhere worth living but shite, KC to NOLA is reaching.

On the flip side, I'd be willing to let the East go. Annex it to Chalmette or something. They'd fit right in.
