How is this more controversial than "Who Shot First?"?
THAT, is the biggest controversy in cinema, by a long shot.

The forced scene with the black woman zipping the ball back to Dottie threw the film from the realm of docu-entertainment into parody.
I really didn't care about the reality of any of the games after that.
You don't think a black woman can throw a baseball?

well dottie is still a massive count for dropping it on purpose. "Sorry guys I know you worked hard this season, but I'm going to go ahead and give the game away to help out my whiny bitch of a sister" Just don't show up then.

Family is more important than baseball.

you can sorta tell by the way at the beginning of the movie she doesnt want to go to the Hall of Fame thing
She didn't care about it
she dropped the ball on purpose, stopped caring...all those years went by...her daughter talked her into going and when she got there, she realized she messed up

From imdb
quote:
During a montage of baseball footage of the Peaches, Dottie is shown catching balls by almost any means necessary (In splits, jumping into the dugout, behind her back, and other players running into her). She is capable of catching and hanging on to the ball. In the final play of the world series scene, Dottie has that ball and is ready to tag Kit out. Kit rams her, knocks her over and Dottie drops the ball...winning Kit's team the World Series. Dottie says it's the way the game is played. It is also hinted that she may have done it intentionally based on many small hints during the movie (her talk with her grandsons, and the looks on Dottie's face when Kit is obviously shadowed by her). It is also entirely possible Kit wanted to win so badly she did knock it out of Dottie's hand. Does she drop it intentionally? Maybe yes, maybe no. It's really up to the viewer to decide for themselves.

Someone call Penny Marshall, since she's already commented on this...but I think people can only find a paraphrase.

Only morons believe the propaganda that was released by the new republic years after the event.

Its possible because some people watch a mediocre movie once and don't obsess over it and therefore don't hear about any controversy.
look everybody! it's the guy who doesn't spend hours and hours incessantly debating a single scene in a movie simply because it's fun to talk about. I wish my brow was higher...

I mean, the knowing look Jimmy and her share as she walks off the field, how could it be anything else?

Actress Anne Ramsey
Has confirmed her belief it was dropped on purpose. That's gotta have some weight.

I merely answered a post that wondered how someone may have never heard of this controversy. Stop crying, there's no need to get so upset by my post.

And yes. She dropped it. On purpose. Because her sister was and never would be better than her.
OP perfectly demonstrates the psychological motives for many of those who cant comprehend Dottie not dropping it on purpose.
No one is arguing Kit was better. Kit winning the play at the plate certainly doesn't indicate that either. But in sports, anyone can win on any given play. And Kit won that play. Why that's so hard to fathom is mind numbing to me.

Methinks you missed the point of the movie.
And this:

Is not what the movie is about. This has nothing to do with the film.

Is not what the movie is about. This has nothing to do with the film.
The movie is about a number of things. There are numerous storylines. Whether Dottie dropped it on purpose or not doesn't suddenly change what the whole movie is about. That you think that play had to end with Dottie dropping it on purpose is laughable.
Baseball is a fundamental part of the movie as well. And the baseball scenes and depiction were fantastic and, like any movie featuring athletic competition, an uncertain outcome is ideal for suspense and realism.
So again, psychological motives and subjective observations of looks the coach and Dottie gave one another to support their position. People WANT to believe she dropped it on purpose based on inferences and emotional interpretations is what I see. The context and substance don't show that at all.

I think she dropped it on purpose cause she had money on the game. Charlie hustle ain't got nothing on Double-down Dottie.
