When I read the adjective "craziest" in your OP my mind didn't go to 9/11, I was more astonished and taken aback by that more than anything. First thought came to mind was Kanye "G.B. hates blacks" quote. I mean, that cat is f'n CRAZY!
Most surreal was in 03. I was doing an internship with LSP Troop B when Columbia broke apart on reentry. Watched it live on tv and then the phones started lighting up with people call about the wreckage in their yard. It felt weirdly interactive.

Challenger was surreal. I was in first grade and they brought a TV in so we all watched it. When it exploded the teachers just turned off the TV and hurriedly changed the subject. The class was more stunned than upset, I guess we were young enough to not really grasp it until later on.

I remember seeing it on tv at school. We were like, ok, which part is the space shuttle? That's it right there, no that's the part that falls off during launch, no that's it, no--oh shite, I think it blew up! Yeah exactly we weren't sure if that was how a shuttle was supposed look or what. Surreal was prob the wrong word, more like confused.

Did debris from Columbia land in Troop B's AO?
I know the debris field widened past the point of breakup, but I always thought it was more of a Shreveport to Toledo Bend and into Central LA type event. I didn't realize debris ended up in the NOLA area.

When I was in high school a guy in Alexandria went to the courthouse and shot his wife who worked then had a standoff with police while he sat on the brick ledge outside the building. Well our teacher heard this was going on and turned on the TV so we could watch the coverage.
We watch the dude sitting there talking to a priest for a while, shook his hand and the priest left. Stuck the gun in his mouth and blew his brains out. fricking camera guy zooms in on the shite live and you see him laying there with blood gushing out everywhere. Crazy shite
