The Superdome's baseball configuration had all the charm of the Mojave Desert.

(Cue Tumbleweed to roll on through)

It was serious dead air and deep fences for power hitters.

4th highest attendance of all time for a college baseball game was Tulane/LSU in the Dome in 2002 (set the record at the time).

Sat behind home plate for the Giants vs. A's preseason game the same year they played in the World Series (earthquake series). Got Will Clark to autograph the poster sponsored by Shoe Town lol. Have it framed still.

Jesus that backstop is so far away. Billy Hamilton could make it from 1st to Home.
It is more of an illusion because of the panoramic setting of the photo.

The Pelicans came back for one year and played there, I believe. I remember going to one game. I wanna say 1977.

I went to the Cubs vs the Astros at the dome I think? I loved it

That was the Cubs vs Twins...I was there. Unless I missed the Cubs coming to Nola some other time. Got one of Sosa's batting practice homerun balls.

I'm pretty sure the Twins won with a walk off. Sammy did homer though and I believe it was his 13th HR of the preseason which was a record at the time. I'm also pretty sure Jeff Blauser hit a homerun.

Damn right. They used to have clinics on the field for kids. I remember being 7 or 8 down there taking tips from LSU players on fielding ground balls.

After a few innings, we would roam the Dome's hallways like a pack of wolves some 20 7yr olds.

you laugh but we were very close to getting the A's and that is the main reason why they used to play preseason games in the dome.

horseshite. Not saying LSU fans didn't outnumber Tulane fans, but this was when Tulane was in the middle of two CWS trips themselves. And LSU/Tulane games at Zephyr Field were always about 60/40 Tulane.

Saw the Yankees play there in some type of exhibition game, I wanted to say they played the Red Sox.

It was the Orioles that played the Yankees.

LSU vs Nebraska, my parents are from nebraska. They went to the game with some friends who were LSU fans. Ive since converted them and they are now fans of both.

Concerts, motocross, the 1988 RNC convention and the pope, not to mention Mardi Gras parades.

When the pope's motorcade left New Orleans headed for Houston, the pope told the limo driver while crossing the Basin bridge, "I've never driven a car before... Mind if I try?" The driver let the pope take the wheel. Coming off the bridge, he was pulled over for speeding by a St. Martin Parish deputy. When the deputy saw who was driving, he radioed the sheriff:

"Sheriff, I think I stopped someone important."

Sheriff says, "Who, the mayor of Breaux Bridge?"

"No sir. Bigger."

"Governor Edwards?"

"Nah, Sherrif, bigger than that, I think."

"Damn, son, who?"

"I dunno, Sherrif, but he's got the pope driving for him."

About 1980 or 1981 I think, I went to the All Time Old Timer's All Star Game at the Dome. A ton of old Hall of Famers were there: Warren Spann, Larry Doby, Aaron, Billy Martin, Boog Powell, Minnie Minoso, Bob Feller, Jim Piersall, Willie Mays, and on and on and on. Got to meet a bunch of them, all were nice guys. Helluva great night.
