It's true that the coaches were at a disadvantage with Harris being as off as he was. Every once in a while that happens and there isn't much you can do about it. I give them that. It's hard to win when your QB looks like that.

But running Magee (the RB with the lowest ypc average) on the opening series on 3rd and 7 is complete stupidity by the coaches and shows no understanding of the importance of keeping Auburn's fast paced offense off of the field for as long as possible. Throw in the 3rd and 15 QB draw, the fact that our leading RB in ypc (Fournette) was the 3rd back to enter the game on LSU's 4th series (where we immediately got our first 1st down of the game on his first carry) and the fact that Miles can not even see that he should have called a timeout to get points before half and the coaching flaws really stand out.

We ran the ball on 3rd down too. I understand the goal was to insulate Harris using the running game, however it should have been obvious much sooner that our defense couldnt hold.

The hope was that Harris would be able to pass some. Only the first possession had 3 straight run attempts (with one fumbled snap and one run out of the spread formation). Exactly the way some of the rant said the game should open to help settle him down in the game. It didn't work.

The second possession in diamond formation involved one run to Magee; one overthrown short pass; and another run out of the spread.

The third possession toss-dive for 9 yards; busted play Harris runs right; false start on 3rd & 3; 3rd & 8 pass play from spread Harris leaves pocket prematurely and runs resulting in a loss.

after the first series where we went 3 and out, and gave up the FG, i told my wife if they keep playing that conservative on offense, its going tobe 0-17 in a heartbeat.

10 min later i was proven right.

I was thinking the same thing. On the first drive, when we ran on third and 7, and went 3 and out, my hopes dimmed. Same old Miles.

I wonder if Harris might not have been so rattled if Miles had shown the confidence in him to come out throwing. We'll never know.

There are not enough mind altering drugs on the planet for anyone other than him to believe it.

It has nothing to do with this. Game is only 10-0 after 3 possessions. It's almost always the moment being too big for the player.

If he said all those things you guys are saying then Alleva should have him committed. That's insane!!

However with that weird spread of LSU -1 at Florida maybe he will open up the offense..lol

This season is not a fluke. They are below average. This is not a team playing lazy or bad coaching - this is just a bad team. In other words they are not very good.

Just accept it and support them or find something else to do on Saturday.

Bitching and complaining is a waste of energy and only makes us look worse as afan base.
We are right on the verge of turning into a Longhorn fanbase. Most of my Longhorn friends don't watch football of Sat. They are either on a trip or on the golf course. If they go to the game they arrive in the 2nd qtr and leave in the 3rd.

You know something is wrong in the world when 2 of the best teams in the country are in Mississippi. Maybe it is a sign.

What's funny is, some people do not understand what "running the spread" means.

The spread can be - and often IS in college football - a power running attack. You empty the box by spreading the field, allowing the QB and RB more room to operate. The Mississippi schools run the spread...and RUN is the key word since they do that more than throw it. It's called modern football.

Now why don't people use the I-formation as a base offense? Maybe because it brings more defenders into the box and near the line of scrimmage. What does that mean? You are more predictable (less WRs on the field usually) and more likely to pay for a mistake on a given play (more guys to block means more chances to frick up).

The spread can be very simple, not complicated. Smart teams run it unless they have truly dominant offensive lines. If you fail in recruiting linemen, you better not be running the I as a main scheme against good defenses.

Good post, but I will say this...
quote:

We have the size and speed at wideout, and the arm strength of Harris to keep them out of our backfield, but we stubbornly line up with FBs and TEs.

Looking at the two-deep for WR, I see:

No. 08 Trey Quinn 6-0, 194, FR
No. 15 Malachi Dupré 6-3, 187, FR
No. 83 Travin Dural 6-2, 192, SO
No. 09 John Diarse 6-0, 210, RSFR

...and for TE and FB:

No. 43 Connor Neighbors 5-11, 229, SR
No. 49 Melvin Jones 6-2, 258, SO
No. 85 Dillion Gordon 6-4, 295, JR
No. 84. Logan Stokes 6-5, 255, SR
No. 41 Travis Dickson 6-3, 237, SR

I think the answer is in bold.

I rarely bitch but Les deserves to be ripped, the way he handles this team is unacceptable. There is zero reason for us to be this bad. His plain jane offense has fricked us over more times then not in his tenure. He has relied on talent over the years, and times have caught up to him. We win despite of Les, not because of him. Everyone in the SEC is passing us for a reason. Every LSU fan has a right to be disgruntled, we look like the most clueless team in the country, whats disturbing about these loses is we fail to ever make any changes, we are set up for failure. Les has proven he will not change his ways, unless he does, the next few years will be hell.

Really, everyone is passing us?

Florida?
Tennessee?
A&M?
Arkansas?
Vanderbilt?
So Carolina?
Kentucky?

All those teams have passed us?

Who knew?

All those teams with the exception of Arkansas and Vanderbilt have more SEC wins than us.

And all, ok not Vanderbilt, have looked more competitive than us so far.
