League to vote on proposed lottery changes this month

Proposal details: four worst teams would have equal 12 percent chance to win No. 1 pick. Worst team could fall no lower than No 7.
Four teams w/ best record would have, in order, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2.5% chance at No. 1 pick and better chance than today of moving into top-6
Under current rules, worst team has 25% chance at No. 1. Second-worst: 19.9%. Third-worst: 15.6%. Proposal would give 4 worst equal 12% odds
And to be clear: Any change approved in October (or later in season) could — and probably would — go into effect for this draft lottery

Thankfully we got our franchise player before the league overreacted to sports journalists overreacting to bad teams being bad. Just think if we were trying to build around TRob and Eric Gordon right now, which is what things were looking like before winning the lottery. We might be one of the teams stuck in no man's land when the league made it harder to escape.

If you want to get rid of tanking, just make it so all 14 teams have the same odds. And make all 14 picks in the lottery not just the first 3.
Would make for some hilarity when a .500 team has the #1 pick and a 12 win 6ers team is picking 12th or so, but would make the NBA draft lottery "must see TV" in my opinion.

huge over reaction to the sixers
what i dont understand is why the other owners care if a team goes on a multi-year tank
all that means isther is one less good team to worry about. i wish one of the teams in the pels division would tear it down philly-style
more wins for us

Adam Silver has appeared to be pretty ambitious from the moment Stern retired. I think he's trying to make his mark on the league and maybe trying to get the owners used to following his lead early.

The timing of the change may be one year too late for many, but for Sixers fans, and for people who are fans of things being fair to people who operate by the rules, this is a major blow. And while the rule changes have clear merit, the implementation cannot be construed as anything other than an attempt to keep the Sixers from being too successful via tanking.

Adam Silver is not good for this league. He's hellbent on making a drastic change that he can claim as "his" when there is really no point.

does he mean four LOTTERY team with the best record or is every team league-wide (including those in the playoffs) now in the lottery?

Pretty sure he means the 11-14 spots have 2.5%, 1.5%, 1%, and .5% chance at the #1 pick.

He avoided a massive nightmare in Donald Sterling by taking care of that crap as soon as possible. Decisiveness ruled the day there. Can you imagine the quagmire the NFL would have created had that happened under Goodell's watch?
TV deals double the size of the previous ones. He's not changing the game...yet. Until he does that, I don't care what he does.
I can speak from personal experience that I would be flat out pissed if the Pelicans were taking the 76ers approach to things. Pay to keep your nice seats while we don't even attempt to put a product on the floor or let them go and get back in line. Huge middle finger to the STHs that remain loyal to the team.
Not that much is changing under the proposed system. This way still provides a good chance of winning the lotto to the really bad teams. You just don't get extra credit for being god awful anymore. Good.

I don't think its a huge overreaction.
What the Sixers are doing is the most drastic version of intentional tanking in league history.

Do the middle 6 picks keep the same odds?
Posted on 10/3/14 at 3:36 pm to Fun Bunch
And the simple solution is only X top Y picks within a Z year span. Reshuffling the odds so that 4th worst is no different than 1st worst just means they'll aim for 22 wins instead of 15 wins. That'll please the fans. Take them out of the top Y altogether and they'll be pretty motivated to perform.

Missing out on the top 6 pick while being a perennially bad team would motivate ownership to fire Jeff Bower quicker than if he got another top pick and could claim to be stockpiling talent.

Adam Silver is perfect for this league right now. The lottery is broken. It will never be perfect, as one player can change a franchise overnight, and tanking for 1-2 seasons may net you 10 playoff seasons, but it absolutely needs to be improved.

Than you have inconsistency and C grade GMs cycling through over and over.

The only change I wouldn't mind seeing is preventing a team from getting a lottery pick multiple years in a row.
So that way teams like Philly and Cleveland would have to start picking 4th at some point.

You want me to fix bad GMing or tanking?
