Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Friday called on the Obama administration to impose a travel ban on flights coming to the U.S. from countries with Ebola outbreaks.

“We should stop accepting flights from countries that are Ebola stricken,” the Republican governor said in a statement.
“President Obama said it was ‘unlikely’ that Ebola would reach the U.S. Well, it has, and we need to protect our people,” he added. “But the Obama administration keeps saying they won’t shut down flights. They instead say we should listen to ‘the experts.’ In fact, they said it would be counterproductive to stop these flights. That statement defies logic. How exactly would stopping the entry of people potentially carrying the Ebola virus be counterproductive? This seems to be an obvious step to protect public health in the United States.”

But,but the CDC guy said that's not fair and that would actually make it more likely that we will all catch Ebola and die!
We can't turn our backs on the sick!

The guy in Dallas with Ebola didn't fly-in directly from Liberia. His last stop before flying in to DC was Brussels. In fact I think there are very few direct flights (if any) from the Ebola stricken countries. So what is Jindal's point? Does he mean stop every flight coming in to USA?

Obama will not 'close the borders' on incoming flights from countries with Ebola outbreaks. To do so would change the narrative of open borders and amnesty for our southern neighbors. For whatever reason amnesty driven ideology reins supreme in Dear Leaders mind.

Uhh, what about U.S. citizens in Liberia who no longer have a valid Liberian visa?

I'm sure Piyush thought of that, right?

It's the connecting flights that we have to really worry about, but anyone with a Liberian passport stamp should have to wait another 21 days after departing Liberia before being able to enter the US.

Some knucklehead that wrote a book on ebloa was on AC 360 last night and said it was our obligation and duty to care for/accept Liberians with ebola since we essentially founded Liberia because of slavery in the 1820's. I guess we should bring an epidemic to the US to atone for our sins from 200 years ago.

Bobby has found the issue he thinks will catapult him back into the 2016 horserace.

We can't stop flying to and from disease-ridden African nations! If we did that, somebody might think that we are Racist.

We'd rather be dead than be poorly regarded or thought to be racist in any way. Well, not me personally, but, I'm probably in the minority*.

* By "minority" I don't mean to be speaking in racial terms at all. I'm using the word solely to refer to myself being outnumbered by people who are not Racist.

By all means, let's ignore the Ebola threat, if it would be Racist to take precautionary measures against it.

I mean, maybe it's not even a threat ! Many informed and well-meaning African-Africans (as opposed to African-Americans) contend that Ebola does not exist! Who am I to argue, with my White Privileged arse?

If Ebola does really exist, we must consider whether it was invented by White Devils to harm African-Africans and African-Americans, as contended by Right Reverend and Minister Louis Farrakhan.

It would be wrong and Racist to dismiss his learned views out of hand. In fact, those who disagree with Minister Louis Farrakhan may do so out of pure Racism.

Seems like a guaranteed way to start a panic. But maybe that's what we need? The clowns running the show in Dallas arent inspiring confidence iyam.

I know for a fact that a LA state trooper pulled someone over on 10/1 who had travelled from Africa and reported Flu-like symptoms. The officer spent a day in quarantine in the hospital.

Over reaction, maybe. But IMO it's better to be safe than sorry.

Eta: So maybe some of you shouldn't bash Jindal when you may not know the whole story.
