Be honest, does this look like crap?

A friend of mine took a glass blowing class and made this piece. I told her I'd make a base for it since I've done it for other things, mostly plates and masks though. I couldn't figure it out since the damn glass was heavy. Anyway, here it is.

Honestly not caring for it, but it may be the glass piece and not just the base.
IMHO, FWIW:
The whole thing doesn't "match"--top is flowy and reminds me of the ocean, while the bottom is angular and woodsy. Plus the pattern (grain) on the wood block detract from the glass piece. Or is it supposed to be a contrast in textures, designs, etc.?
