If I still smoked weed, I might understand the bougie/hipster donut craze. Well, I probably wouldn't understand it. But I'd definitely be a fan of it.
.

Can confirm. I still smoke. I don't understand it, but I wouldn't complain if you put one in front of me at no cost to myself.

I've had them at a few places. I don't care for 'em at all. Give me a hot KK straight off the conveyor belt any day of the week. As for Dunkin Donuts, those don't even qualify as donuts nowadays.

While I normally would agree that $2.50 is ridiculous for a donut, I looked up the place where the OP bought his overpriced "creations". Besides a collection of gluten-free donuts and special vegan donuts of the day, I found this:

Pistachio-Meyer Lemon
meyer-lemon glazed pistachio cake donut covered in toasted sicilian pistachios.

Yes, please. Not much different from a muffin at that point.

(They also have a Candied Maple Bacon donut, which I don't think I'd like very much.)

Like I said fancy names with no substance
I admit I was duped by the name and ate one of those

Didn't taste any lemon
Stachios were four in number and added nothing but a gritty texture to donut
Pistachios and donuts do not mix

I had the bacon and maple donut at hogs for the cause. It was good but I couldn't eat more than 1 bite. The bread (don't know what else to call it) was way too thick. It's just way too rich for my taste.

I grew up on DD, and they were great. Nowadays, they aren't even made fresh -- they are shipped in and thawed out. Those are some of the coldest, driest things I've ever eaten. Pitiful.

I think they're just fine for a one off here and there, and a different option to just the every day run of the mill kind (which are fine too)... I wouldn't be buying a dozen or more but if I was asked to for a group.. I guess it wouldn't be too bad once every blue moon...

I paid $25 for a single Cro-nut in New York. People wait in line, buy them and then stand out and sell them for 5x what they paid.
It was good, but not $25 for a single donut good.
I think I posted a pic here on my NYC review.

Ah this old argument again. Why not just shut down the entire concept of a food & drink message board? The "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" crowd must live a boring life.

Normally I let you troll because I find it humorous, but you are spot in with this.

As for the price, I am eating 1 "craft" donut at most so 2.50 isn't a turnoff.

Very few of the donuts live up to their name, but I have had a few good ones.
