Lab school wants their kindergartners to be at least 6 years old.....
Not sure about at least (because I don't think they want 7 year olds starting in K in August), but I've heard similar things about the lab school as well--that they like the kids to be older and more mature when they start.
Some of my friends with kids who had spring birthdays deliberately held them back another year (so they started in August at age 6) so they'd have a better chance at getting in (and a few had this suggested to them by admissions).
This is not true of every kid, but I've heard it enough that you might take note if your kid doesn't get into Kindergarten this year.
I agree with whoever said luck has some role in admissions. I've known Lab School alumni who didn't get their kids in on the first try, and others who seemed to have few connections get in without much trouble. I do think connections will help beef up the application, but your mom being a professor doesn't count for much.

Send them to Episcopal so they actually can get an education

K only has about 140 applicants so far for next year and deadline is less than 2 weeks away.
That doesn't mean much, as many people wait until the last moment to turn in applications.

Unless you are connected it ain't happening. You MUST know someone with alot of power to get in.

You know there's other good schools besides catholic high.
Or are you one of those "catholic high is the only good school in BR" Person?

I will never send my kids to Catholic high.

I love the people who are over-confident about getting their kids into lab school. It's not easy. I applied for my daughter and she didn't make it. However, some of the kids from her pre-k class did. One of them had a grandfather who was a professor, one was poor, and one was a minority. The worst thing you can be is white, middle class and have no connections.
She is now in Catholic School. Best thing to happen to us. Very glad we didn't make the cut.

Catholic High would be cool to go to. There is the gifted route ( dont do it) with Glasgow or mckinley or woodlawn. or magnet to BRMHS . I graduated from BRMHS. It sucked dick...

I still don't know why people don't consider Southern Lab. It's run by the same people who run LSU Lab - the State of Louisiana.

Didn't say that I don't.
My grandmother attended SU Lab.

Perfectly fine. The only thing she said she didn't like was that she had some older cousins there that gave her hell.
She's retired from the EBRSS.
