The statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season has arrived and for the first time since 1992 there isn’t a named storm in the basin.

While forecasters are watching a pair of potential systems, neither is likely to grow into a tropical storm by the end of today. So far, four storms have gotten names in the Atlantic this year.

I know that Climate Change people will (haughtily) point out the difference between "weather and climate" and harumph in general. But at some point aren't the bombastic claims of "Category 6" hurricanes becoming the norm by Al Gore and the like going to be held to account?

I thought that Katrina and Sandy were to be "the new normal"? They can't carelessly throw around these doomsday scenarios for reasons to ACT NOW!!!! and then just walk away (or fly back to their 5,000 square foot homes cooled exactly to 72 degrees on their private jets) when nothing comes to pass.

I don't know what data your looking at but this clearly shows that AGW I mean climate change is real.

That is the problem with zealotry...now, if there is any hurricane that hits the mainland that is above a Cat 2, climate change will be blamed - even though hurricanes have been hitting coastlines since the beginning of time.

No one can have a rational discussion on these topics though because (a) everyone has chosen teams; and (2) there is so much money on the line - no ability to compromise exists.

AGW is now suppressing hurricanes. Can Mother Gaia endure much more?

Reality is the slow hurricane season proves nothing, but you are 100% correct.

The global warming crowd used 2005 as proof that we were in a new climate. Cat 5 hurricanes were going to be routine. They questioned as to whether we needed a Cat 6 category.

The global warming crowd now is the climate change crowd. They cried wolf too often.

We aren't seeing major hurricanes hitting the US as they told us they would. We aren't seeing record numbers of tornadoes as they told us they would. Many are saying we aren't seeing the temperatures warming as they said it would.

All of this needs to be studied, but the global warming crowd has already distorted the facts and public debate. Now it has become so politicized that science has taken a back seat.

Apparently, you haven't gotten the leftist lies/propaganda/brainwashing talking points --

quote:

Let's see how it works --

Cold Summer - Fault of Climate Change
Moderate Summer - Fault of Climate Change
Hot Summer - Fault of Global Warming
Cold Fall - Fault of Climate Change
Moderate Fall - Fault of Climate Change
Hot Fall - Fault of Global Warming
Cold Winter - Fault of Climate Change
Moderate Winter - Fault of Climate Change
Hot Winter - Fault of Global Warming
Cold Spring - Fault of Climate Change
Moderate Spring - Fault of Climate Change
Hot Spring - Fault of Global Warming

Too Many Hurricanes - Fault of Global Warming
Average Number of Hurricanes - Fault of Climate Change
Very Few Hurricanes - Fault of Climate Change

And, on and on and on and on ....

Geez...

1) Global warming/climate change has caused increase in temperature in Sahara Desert;

2) Global warming has also caused a shift in the summer upper level wind patterns in northern/western Africa;

3) This has caused an abnormal injection of dust into the western Atlantic, which has operated to retard development of tropical systems, as well as infusing more...

DRY AIR

...into these development zones.

++++++++++++++

So, you see, once the globe has gotten so hot that the Sahara Desert is melted to glass, the dust won't be there anymore and with the boiling oceans, we will have Category Eleventybillion hurricanes everyday.

The Atlantic isn't the only place that has tropical systems. They Eastpac is way above average this year.

It's Global Warming, Stupid!

That was the headline imposed over a cover of a flooded section of lower Manhattan after Tropical Storm Sandy. 2005 Hurricane season was also touted as evidence that global warming is out of control.

The past 12 months have been much cooler than normal in my area and in much of the US. I'm looking forward to a bitterly cold winter in the northeast. It's going to be a great duck season.

Al Gore doesn't have any peer reviewed publications on climate science.

So we're about halfway through, right?

Seems consistent with predictions:

quote:

The most likely number of tropical storms predicted to occur in the North Atlantic during the June to November period is 10, with a 70% chance that the number will be in the range 7 to 13.
