Fontainebleau State Park - beach question.

We are looking for new things to do with our kids ( age 10 and 7) that could be an easy day trip from B.R.
I was curious how the beach at Fontainebleau State Park is? Worth the hour trip east on I 12?
Any OT'ers ever been?

I've been to that park a bunch of times but never went to a beach

keep your kids away from the beach. nothing good ever comes from there.

It's a very nice park and would be an enjoyable trip, IMO.
If you get tired of the park and beach, you can go to the lakefront in Old Mandeville and hang out, people watch, etc.

Probably okay for kids that age. It's a lake beach so don't expect much. Sand is decent, water generally pretty muddy. Very shallow. The beach itself isn't worth the trip but the hiking, long boardwalk pier into the lake and other things together would make it worth it.

The St. Tammany bike trail is the best thing going there. The park is ok, the pier is okay. The beach is a 2 on a 10 scale.

You'd be better off driving another 30 minutes to Ocean Springs, MS.
Also check out Tickfaw State Park. They have a water playground and hiking trails that are kid friendly

Years ago when I was working on the Northshore, I went there. It was a cold day in November, literally no one there.
Went walking on the beach and saw a bald eagle, looked like she was feeding her young in the nest.

The beach itself ain't Florida, but the whole park experience is good.

Ocean Springs is like an hour further
The park is good for just walking around. Bring bug spray. Last time I jogged there I ran across a big boar and deer and rabbits are common.

I like it, have taken my young sons there many times. Don't go there expecting Destin and you'll have a good time. Usually very calm and it is very shallow even like 100 yards out (waist deep)
