re: Are some of the reports of Mexican cartels joining ISIS true?

The cartels are willing to let ISIS kill their own customers? Why would cartels be willing to let them come over here to blow a bunch of potential drug users up?
Eta: not implying we are just a bunch of druggies, but the cartels would look at it that way.

Former CIA covert operations officer Mike Baker said that he believes there is “a lot of communication” between ISIS and Mexican drug cartels given past efforts by al Qaeda to do likewise on Thursday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”
“We’ve had good intel over the years about al Qaeda, about their efforts to coordinate with, as an example, Mexican cartels...in an effort to try to exploit our southern border” he reported, adding that a terrorist group like ISIS “absolutely” knows about the lack of security on the border.
Baker stated he believes there is “a lot of communication” between ISIS and drug cartels. And “the cartels are a business ... if there’s a revenue stream they can exploit, then they will, and the extremists understand that.”
What does this guy know? He's just an ex-CIA covert operations officer.

i'd imagine if ISIS was trying to use the SW border to enter the USA, we'd actually team up with the cartels to eliminate this threat
I doubt we'd share intel with them or coordinate attacks

Doesn't make sense for them to get involved in that.

It would be funny to see videos of the cartels beheading ISIS members.

a. if he wasn't working covert in mexico, or doing intel analysis in mexico, his opinion/statements are worthless
b. he has a direct, subjective reason to create a boogeyman. he creates a narrative and gains from spreading this narrative
you have a HUGE presumption that his comments are objective and noble. the fact that he is appearing on tv implies they're neither

You're right. I'm sure you know far more about it than this ex-CIA operative does.

don't attack the source. that's what lower-level thinkers do. they're quoting him after he appeared on a different medium

Why are there so many chicken little's running around trying to sell fear?
Of course the 24 hour news channels have to, but these quoted "experts" must just need to get hits on their blogs or be looking for extra funding or donations by doing this silly fear mongering all of the time.

That's all just bullshite in an attempt to organize a false flag incident or attack.

There are a ton of former CIA operations officers, not all of them are useful. It's like quoting a random person from an infantry unit to ask them about ISIS tactics.
FWIW, I've never seen Mike Baker as someone who was especially dubious, but it still seems like the cartels would not be interested in having the world come down on their operations.

Mexican cartels joining ISIS are not true.
ISIS using our lack of secure southern border to move men and weapons into the US is more plausible.
We don't have the luxury if being surrounded completely by oceans like New Zealand and Japan. It's stupid and risky to allow people to almost freely walk into our country without using the proper channels and forfeit our ability to track movement.

Yes, and to the extent there is any cooperation, the furthest that seems plausible to me would be ISIS or affiliates paying for passage into the country using known smuggling routes and methods. I definitely think the whole "teaming up" idea is radically overblown.

you do know he never worked in Mexico, right?
i know of mike baker. i like him. he's a media whore. he's a self-promoter who creates narratives to get on tv and to promote his show
you have to take anything he says via media with a grain of salt
