Help me think of NOLA restaurants

That are not eclectic or foofi foofi. My coworker is going down for a saints game and wants "normal" restaurant recs. She hated Stella, so that takes August and R'evolution out. I recommended Mr. B's last time and she loved it.
Commanders-i don't think there is many crazy plates there but i think you have to wear a jacket.
Mr. John's-could be a safe steakhouse bet
Clancy's-what do you think?
Tommy's-?
Upperline?
Irene's-?
Muriel's?

You are just wanting a place that has bar food and fried seafood? Trying to get the idea of what you are going for.

Yea, La Boca! That place was good and the menu isn't anything crazy.

Tommy's is a safe choice.

Clancy's is kick arse.
I mean we can throw suggestions out all day. Kind of depends on what area of the city and what she really wants.
Muriels is a good safe bet for the quarter.
Need to start working on reservations now.

Jackets are not required at Commander's. A sports coat is a good thing to wear, but not required. I wouldn't go in a polo, though things may be relaxed on game days. Does your friend have a dress requirement?
I second Emeril's. It's an excellent restaurant. More on the casual side than Commander's.
Clancy's would be fine. Muriel's isn't as good as Emeril's or Clancy's, but it's a solid restaurant. Menu isn't all that large. Is your friend going to look at the menus of your suggestions to pick one or two?
Mandina's is pretty normal as far as the menu. Some don't care for it, but I enjoy it. It's casual with lots of options.
Party of 3 who I know ate at Mr John's recently and enjoyed everything ordered and would return.
There was a nice review of Upperline recently.
I think Luke might fit the requirements here.
I wasn't all the impressed with Irene's in late April. Probably wouldn't return except for the app of crabmeat and the bruschetta. Didn't love the place like other folks. Several of us thought our entrees were pretty bland.

I was thinking galatoire's but isn't a jacket required?

Jones' parents are pretty straight-laced, and their regular spots are Tommy's and Vincent's. We brought them to Mr. John's recently and they loved it.

Galatoire's requires a jacket at night. During a Saints game weekend, it might be difficult to get in downstairs, though they do take reservations upstairs, I believe. Just depends on what time you're going to eat there downstairs. I think I'd stick to a place with reservations available for a game weekend, though Galatoire's menu would fit.
Arnaud's has similar food and is quite good. No jackets required, but men usually wear a sports coat at night. It's a bit more relaxed and probably so on game weekends. The oysters Arnaud are so darn good. I always enjoy my meals there. It's typical old New Orleans fare done well.
