I've never attempted it.
Who's got the right recipe and technique?

I searched before I posted, and it only came up a few times in a cooking/drinking thread.

Tried this a few weeks back and the results were very poor. Apparently more to it than I would have thought...

Anyone add liquid crab boil while doing this? Something I always wanted to try.

I use water, salt and liquid Zatarain's crab boil. Put them in the crock pot and let them cook for 6-8 hours if dried, not nearly as long if using green peanuts.
A lot of salt.
A lot of salt.

Yep, gives them a little more flavor.
We boil them when it gets a little bit cooler.

Done it twice in past 3 weeks. This past weekend's were bueno.
GOTTA get raw or green peanuts, I didn't understand that the first time. No Roasted Nuts.
I then proceeded with the cooking.
Got a gallon tub on the crock pot (Maybe 1.5, not sure). Filled with 2/3 nuts, and probably close to half gallon of water.
Then ingredients I used:
~1/4 cup of salt
~1/4 cup of Tony's
2 tbls of liquid boil... will add an ounce of powder next time as well
Lastly, about 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup of Worchestire
I left on low for about 20 hours.

Make the water salty to taste (some use crab boil, I don't care for them that way, but if you do get water just like you do for crawfish), bring peanuts to a hard boil, back off the heat to just boiling, keep it going for a few hours, and soak for another 30-45 minutes till they are how you like them. A good rule of thumb is it takes a whole football game, start them at kickoff and some where in the third qtr turn the heat off and let them soak till it is over....give or take

I also been wanting to attempt a peanut boil.
I love some hot boiled peanuts but I have no idea on cooking them.
20 hrs in a crock pot? Wow. Didn't realize it would take that long.
What about a regular crawfish boiling pot with a burner outside? How long for that?

At least a couple of hours, maybe more.

simple
Burner water Louisiana Crab boil Raw Peanuts. Boil about 3-4 hours soak for as long as you like.
Fall time is hunting, football, cool weather and Boiled Peanut Time
Note:
if you do them inside on the stove, be sure to keep adding water to the pot. I got busy outside once and the smoke that came off the burning peanuts would take your breath way. It was bad.

Fried peanuts (with the shell) are better than boiled peanuts.
