CNN pushing cops need to know the community better and maybe this wouldn't have to happen. It's a nice thought maybe, but people who break the law aren't really going to just be buddies with its enforcers

No - not LSURussian Roulette (which, as you know, involves buying silver high and selling low) - but Russian Roulette (like in that movie, The Deer Hunter.)

Dead dude with the knife wasn't having it from the other spectators either. Hate to see a guy die, but with the heightened tensions in the area and lunging at a cop??? Of course you be dead

Based on the law, the cops were justified, but from a moral perspective, I wouldn't sleep good at night if I was one of the cops involved in that shooting. Once it became obvious that the man was using me to commit suicide and had no interest in harming anyone, I would have immediately gone for the pepper spray or Taser, or at the very most, just winged him.
EDIT: The man with the knife obviously belonged in a mental hospital, not a cemetery. I see him similar to the way I see someone who just took a bottle full of pills - both are crying for help.

Must be nice to live in the Matrix where you can slow down time and ponder over those thoughts. In the real world, these officers showed up at a call which I can almost guarantee was dispatched as a shoplifter and were faced with a man holding a knife. They were forced to make a life threatening decision in the time it takes you to wipe your arse and they chose to go home to their families.
Seriously, try for one second to even try and recreate in your head the adrenaline dump they experienced and your family rush through your mind as this person advances on you with a lethal weapon and tell me you would not have done the same.
Also, when in the video did it become "obvious" that he had no intent on harming anyone? A grown adult is advancing on officers with a knife. What do you consider intent to harm? Should they have only shot him if he said, "I'm going to stab you"

You misunderstood me. I'm not slamming the cops. They probably didn't realize what was going on until after they shot the man, but even if that was the case, I still wouldn't sleep good that night. There's no joy in killing the mentally ill.

There's no joy in interviewing a rape victim. There's no joy in processing a murder scene. Hell, I never received any joy from issuing a speeding ticket. I can't speak for others but if I was a cop for the joy i receive, I would've quit a long time ago. I assure you those two officers experienced any joy while shooting that man or at any time since. Relieve, sure, but no joy. It is few and far between that we receive joy during our profession but it is something most of us were called to do and I'm proud to be a cop. But I can tell you with absolute certainty that I would never experience joy after discharging my weapon, regardless of the circumstance.

I just don't think this statement holds true for a lot of cops out there.

I like that theory. Apparently this happened just four miles away from where Brown was shot.
Just like some killers commit or copy murders for fame, maybe some choose to be victims for fame's sake as well.

I don't understand why, if they're working in pairs, one officer doesn't deploy a taser while the other deploys his firearm.
Tazers are used for unruly people. Guns are used for life and death scenarios. If second cop goes for tazer, guy lunges with knife, first cop gun jams, dead cop.

Unfortunately in this case, it looked like they didn't have a choice if he had a weapon in his hand.
In this situation when the suspect was moving towards them, deadly force is the right call.
If the guy was just pacing back and forth and not making any forward movement, tazing him would have been the first choice.

The criticism for the cops in this situation is astounding. You all know that 99% of you would have done the same thing in that situation and it is the same in most countries around the world.
An armed suspect with a death wish starts closing down on you even though you have a gun aimed at him? FFS he was screaming "just shoot me", had unopened stolen sodas on the curb, and was waiting for the cops. It was suicide by cops and nothing else.
Also, I'm betting whatever mental illness he had was overstated. The smart money is on him hitting the crystal.

Does anyone know if they even carry tazers? I know in memphis and the municipalities surrounding the police do not have tazers.

there is no "wing him" training in use of deadly force. only aiming for center mass until the target is neutralized.
