A huge conspiracy is currently taking place in the gaming industry...

The easiest way to catch up would be to watch this video.
If you don't have 25 minutes, I'll attempt to summarize the situation with as much brevity as possible...
- Zoey Quinn is an indie game developer responsible for the game "Depression Quest"
- Despite the fact that the actual game is quite poor, and is little more than a text based game, it somehow made it onto Steam.
- Late last year, Zoe submitted Depression Quest to Steam Greenlight.
- She fabricated criticism and falsely victimized herself on various websites to drum up sympathy, which ultimately led to the community approving her game.
- She cheated on her boyfriend with numerous members of the gaming community, including multiple indie game developers, as well as individuals in the media at Kotaku and Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
- Using these connections, she has actively suppressed negative commentary on the game - her new "friends" in the gaming press wrote positive articles about her game, and discouraged others in the press from publishing anything that would paint the game in a negative light.
- Numerous Youtube videos criticizing Zoe and Depression Quest have been taken down from Youtube.
- This reached a climax today when the #1 thread on /r/gaming discussing this topic had its comment section completely wiped.
- Twitter conversations revealed a possible collusion between Zoe and the /r/gaming mods
- Additional evidence.
- Curiously, threads detailing this topic have been censored on /r/games and /r/pcgaming as well.
Even though you may not care about this particular incident, it epitomizes the contemporaneous deficiencies with journalistic integrity, as well as the complete lack of honesty and candor in gaming articles and reviews.
More information here. - Note, this is the second subreddit that had to be created to openly discuss this topic, as the first one was banned.

She's not even hot, but I guess if you write for sites like Kotaku and Rock, Paper, Shotgun, then you take anything you can get

Seems like the censorship is more of an attempt to prevent physical damage, death threats, etc from coming to Zoe.

definitely not worth losing your "integrity" over
and definitely something fishy going on there.

Yup. You can spot from a mile away that she has daddy issues.

Okay, I said she's not hot. That means for the love of God, don't post more pictures of her
Now, you are more than welcome to post pics of your avi

That's quite the cavernous vagina she has to keep her shitty game from being criticized.
I will follow this story and hope that she burns.

how is this any different than major game companies essentially paying for good reviews via advertising?
Posted on 8/19/14 at 3:14 pm to Dr RC
because major game companies don't frick moderators to keep people from criticizing their games?

It's not. The state of gaming-related journalism is a complete joke.

so what if she did?
again, how is it different than a company paying people off?
the end result is the same thing.

it isn't in the long run. anyone who still relies on game journalism to tell them how you will enjoy a game needs help.
It has been terrible for a long time now.

the bigger head scratcher for me is why this is such a big story.

It's not.
They both barter using their...methods.
It is why game review sites are bullshite.
