Am I crazy or is ESPN wrong for doing this? The guy came out; he's gay. We got it. He was the seventh round pick...very few professional athletes deserve their own segment on the ticker.
I don't let it bother me that much. ESPN will run anything into the ground as long as the person has a little notoriety because ESPN is the MSNBC of the sports world. They inflate things to get mass appeal AKA appeal to the lowest common denominators.
See Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel 24/7 news cycles for instance.

I will bet you that Sam doesn't want this publicity. Does ESPN ever take this into consideration?

You know who keeps the Michael Sam story alive and well? People who whine about it.

I guess ESPN just doesn't bother me because I turned it off years ago. I used to get mad, then I learned to just change the channel and it all went away.

According to Espn JFF and Sam are the only rookies in the league.

The Browns had asked the players to be in for an 8:15 a.m. meeting, but altered the start time to 7:30 a.m. Manziel said he simply misread the schedule. A couple other rookies also were late and the matter was handled internally, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Like this? They have an entire article on this.

I literally just got out of my car and I had it on espn radio.
-The talk show goes to break and says "we'll talk about manziel's statements about pitt when we get back"
-goes to commercial; mike and mike advertisement where they are like, "We'll tackle all the big topics tomorrow morning like manziel and brian hoyer, who starts?
-then there s a money advertisement, followed by svp and rusillo ad talking about manziel again.
I mean seriously? Do people eventually see the light? who the shite cars this much about two bad qbs on a bad team?
I want to believe that eventually espn changes their ways and that we don't just go the idiocracy route.
I pretty much have cbs sports and espn on my radio dial, as soon as either brings up michael sam, manziel, or mlb; I switch over and pray the other one isnt talking about one aswell.

I don't even watch anymore. If it comes up I switch the channel
I'll watch him play Monday but I certainly don't care about the shite leading up to it

If Johnny Manziel came out of the closet the internet would fold into itself and create a blackhole.

ETA: Would have been a slick PR move for Sam to switch to #42 last year at Mizzou before publicly coming out, and then hailing Jackie as his "hero" that he studied up on and wants to emulate. Just thought of this.

Since he hasn't made the team yet, I would say it is a big deal to cover performance.
No different if they had a female drafted. Nothing wrong with being a woman, but it would be a first.

Nah, don't you understand, he was going 96 the whole time. It's the gay 69.
