The FPD is under attack
I think some of the FPD's past behavior has come into play here also. The situation has gotten out of hand and I'm sure there is plenty of blame to go around, I know that everyone that has participated in the looting can't be put in jail but they are despicable sub-human garbage that should be made to live in those burned out neighborhoods and businesses should be forbidden to rebuild.

They predicted, correctly it seems, that the video would inflame racial tensions.

I think it was relevant to the young mans state of mind at the time of the incident with the cop.

DOJ reportedly asked Ferguson cops not to release robbery video
Thursday still would have been 5 days after the shooting. Holding out on the video gives the witnesses more time to speak aka more time to put their foot in their mouth. Plus the way they handled it on Friday was a complete cluster.
I can see the local PD being resentful that the feds are looking over their shoulder on this.

It's how they make their living. Hate mongering. But it's those other people that are racists...

The video constituted CHARACTER REVELATION.
Thank you - I have been waiting for someone to make this assessment.
All that is being assassinated is the false narrative about the "sweet young child, on his knees pleading for his life before that evil racist white storm-trooper shot him in cold blood."
There is no doubt in my mind that the robbery was a seminal event in the shooting - whether the cop knew the details or not. Brown certainly knew that he had robbed a store and strong-armed the clerk just moments before and must have suspected he was being detained for that offense. Hence his attitude and actions to either intimidate the officer or over-power him to get away.
While this may be an example of over-zealous law enforcement, the overwhelming blame for this tragedy rests with the criminal.

Complicated their racial show trial

How is it character assassination? I would see character assassination as showing something that could view out of context or viewed without having the entire story. That's not the case here, the video clearly shows a racists move by brown when he stole and physically intimidated a minority store owner.
Huh? Certainly Brown was a bully and a thug but I didn't see anything racist about his actions, unless you think that racism MUST be involved whenever a member of one race commits a crime against a member of another race.

I love how the star witness is the other robber of the store. Excuse me. I meant "hero." The man is a hero.
If you go back and look at the video, Dorian Johnson didn't take anything from the store. Brown gave him some cigars but he placed them on the counter before he left. Also, Johnson told the police and the FBI about Brown stealing the cigars when they question him after the shooting. The only Johnson is guilty of is keeping bad company.

(Posted on 8/15/14 at 5:03 pm to rb) This is not going to make a difference to the people that are pissed off for racial reasons. They have formed an emotional bond to Mike Brown and they will rationalize the release of the robbery video by saying the video is a character assassination by The Man and an attack on his memory. Ferguson may get even worse.

Everyone jumping to conclusions is wrong, on both sides. I'm glad people are protesting because it got the DOJ involved and there will be solid forensic evidence that puts this case to rest.
I just watched the video of a lifeless 18 yr old. People need to realize that in that community distrust of PD runs deep. Hell, I've seen threads on TD and distrust in PD runs deep here. Different community. Same distrust.
Protestors are what make America great. The police handled them and this situation very poorly. There is never an excuse for riots. It just harms the cause.
The truth is out there and hopefully for all involved it is found. There will be a lot of political and social pressure to get certain results, but I trust in science and the American system to get to the truth.
Prayers to the deceased and his family.

Random thoughts after watching the 10min video.

i disagree
i think protesting is stupid, irrational, and inefficient. most protestors are just trying to feel like their actions matter and are channeling the mythology of the 60s. people don't want to accept the fact that life is amazing now and want to create a shitty perception of life just so that they can feel important "protesting" their deluded self perceptions
