I was talking with a friend of mine today and we were trying to think back to when there was a more significant celebrity death. We both said Michaell Jackson, but lots of people could not stand him. He was not univerally loved.

How far back do we go to find a death this significant in American culture, especially considering the way it happened? Lots of people are grieving over this - as though someone we knew was lost.

Philip Seymor Hoffman. I guess. He's the last one I remember.

I'd say so. MJ was kind of the GOAT celeb death in my lifetime.

Robin Williams was bigger than PSH.

Maybe Heath Ledger?

Definitely Michael Jackson, though.

If not MJ, I'll submit James Gandolfini as the death that caused the biggest outpouring.

Even I was sad about that one.

RIP T

None of these were as significant as RW, with the exception possibly of Michael Jackson

Not trying to be a dick, but the significance of RW's death is lost on me.

It's weird that you have to say it that way but I know exactly what you mean by it.
