This is a college arena but I thought the basket stanchions are pretty universal

The base of the goal is further back in the NBA than it was here,

Most arenas are, but there are a couple such as Miami where the padding is pretty damn close. Closer than the other arenas

I doubt they do anything about it.

Just have Rodman patrol the baselines.

NBA players step on the court easily as they have since the NBA came into existence.....

Every team plays 82 games a year, the NBA has what 30 teams? So think of the number of games each team plays and I've never seen an injury like this in the NBA in my 30 years. Maybe it has happened and I just don't remember.

So I could understand that mentality if this was a regular occurrence but it really isn't it was an unfortunate event.

This isn't unprecedented in basketball either. Manu Ginobili seriously injured himself while playing for Argentina at the 2008 Olympics.

Don't remind me. That seriously affected the Spurs' title prospects that year, as well.

Part of the reason SA denied Ginobili the opportunity to play in this offseasons games with the Argentine national team.

Like another poster intimated, it's always an injury risk when a player chooses to play international ball.

Just because it doesn't happen a lot doesn't mean you don't make an extremely easy fix to prevent it. Literally just draw the line for cameramen further back and get longer support beams for the basket. Thats it.

The NFL didn't ban horse collar tackles because guys were getting their legs broken every week. A couple were enough.

Manu seriously injures himself getting out of bed every morning. The guy routine misses lots of games every season.

George's injury was a freak accident. If future NBA players don't play for Team USA bc of this, they're un-American.

You think MJ, Magic, Bird, LeBron or Kobe would've declined playing for Team USA?

Kobe skipped 04
MJ wanted to skip 92 and skipped 96
Magic would've in 80 as he came out early in 79 as a Sophomore

The 04 team in Athens every found a reason to skip.

Why do you think LeBron and Wade were even on that team?

It really is retarded to have some dude sitting in the landing area underneath the basket with those huge mother frickers running and jumping into that spot. High risk low reward. That camera angle isn't crucial Spielberg, move the frick out of the way.

I'm sure people do on a worldwide scale when the nba is trying to sell the game globally.

Kobe led the Redeem Team in '08
MJ was 33 in the '96 games
Pre-92 doesn't matter bc they used college kids so it's different circumstances.

Everyone you named played in the Olympics at some point. None had career ending/threatening injuries. My earlier point was that at some point in their careers, all the biggest NBA stars have played in for Team USA since the creation of 92's Dream Team.

the same kind of injury could happen in an exhibition game in China or Drew League. Paul George was making a simple basketball play.

This.

These guys will be playing basketball in the offseason if they're on team USA or not. Kobe was in China yesterday taking on fans 1 on 1. I'd much rather my star doing organized team USA shite than the stuff they'd be doing if they weren't on team USA.
