Why do couples who met on Tinder try to pass it off as a legitimate dating site?

instead of just a hookup site?
I met a couple over the weekend and they told the story of how they met on tinder. All the other girls seemed (pretended) to think it was a sweet story of two lovers meeting in a magical way.
i was just staring at them for a minute and when the girl stopped talking i asked, "Isn't tinder just a casual hookup site?" Her b/f started laughing under his breath. She tried telling me "yeah, but we were both just on there as a joke... and when i saw him, i knew he was different."
i think i just said ok and laughed. i think she got pissed at me which wasn't my intention. i was just curious.
Are any of you actually dating someone you met on tinder? do you try to pass it off as a legit site or do you just joke about it saying "we met up for sex and it was good, so i stayed"?

Was the chick not "willing to lie about where we met" ?

I have a buddy of mine that is dating someone he met on Tinder. I'm not sure how it works, but how is it different than any other dating site or is it just understood if you use it it's solely for hooking up?

i guess not, and i don't fault them at all for meeting online as that is (apparently) a common and generally accepted method now. i fault her for lying about the circumstances of the meeting/use of tinder and trying to pass it off as match.com or something.

What's a "legitament" dating site?

Yeah. That's a real big deal.

from my understanding of the different sites (paired witht he numerous "tinder pick up line" threads on here) tinder is based 100% on the looks of the person. the pay sites only rely 94% on the looks and 6% on the profile. at least for the women.
im sure it is still 100% looks for men.

I don't judge how people met. If they met on Tinder and it turns out they really do like each other, so what? Good for them.

I don't think there is such thing. On any dating site all you're doing is looking for attractive mates. Tinder just cuts out the bullshite.

This.
I'd say I have no room to judge how anyone met their SO

i dunno, but is tinder a dating site or a hookup site?

I've found that it's generally only guys who view it as a hookup app.
Some chicks use it only to hookup, but there's not many of them. At least that is what my in-depth research indicates.

Is Tinder kind of like Craiglist Personals? Or Backpage?

97% looks?

All dating sites are basically hookup sites
Posted on 7/14/14 at 8:14 am to Displaced
it's more geared to be a hookup site, but honestly, I don't see much difference in Tinder and other sites...most guys are looking for arse and most chicks are looking for a ring just like every site

We had a big mixed-gender work lunch outting few weeks back and a guy coworker talked about dating on tinder.
I was kind of embarrassed for him because he clearly doesn't realize people are aware of the stigma.
