Passengers at some overseas airports that offer U.S.-bound flights will soon be required to power on their electronic devices in order to board their flights — a measure intended to enhance aviation security at a time when intelligence officials are concerned about hidden explosives, a counterterrorism official said

The Transportation Security Administration says it is adding the requirement that passengers coming to the U.S. from some airports must turn on devices such as cellphones before boarding. It says devices that won't power up won't be allowed on planes and those travelers may have to undergo additional screening.

It sounds like they got some chatter talking about phone/laptop bombs or the like.
Seems like they are trying to avoid that by making them have to be functioning.

I guess they'll have to make Samsung users plug in those spare batteries they carry with them. What a PITA that will be.

Yet we allow anyone who wants to walk across the Mexico boarder whenever they want.

We are f'ed if their detection measuring devices can't pick up a bomb without it being "on"

Just when they had started to make progress with speeding up the security scan, this will no dobt back us up a good while.

I don't know how I'd ever sleep if this imminent threat was constantly thwarted.

If I had told any of you this 15 years ago, would you have believed it? I remember getting pissed that I couldn't have a CD player on, and now it's a requirement that it be on?

Damn when I go on vacation my phone always ends up dying before I can get a charge. So I wont be able to fly until I have a good charge? That's stupid.
If you plant a bomb in a laptop there is a unwritten rule that it cannot possible. I dunno.... WORK?
I travel with 2 phones, a tablet (plus my wife's table if she is with me and her phone), Camera's, camcorder. So I guess I better have extra chargers specifically for TSA.

The TSA can suck my balls.
talk about a burden on the American society, we're paying for them to rob us of our rights for a goal that they cannot accomplish. They are woefully inept at their job as it is. The TSA is nothing more than the fat cow at mcdonalds with authority.

I went to a political rally for Obama back in 2008. We had to turn our cell phones on when going inside. TSA was running security for that event.
I never thought it'd go mainstream in airport security.
