That's the kind of thing I would bring a chick to go see.

FWIW that song was never on the jukebox and no Phish has been available for 2.5 years.

Exactly.

I can do an acoustic set every once in a while, but can you really not see why people aren't that hyped about it?

As for someone saying that BR only likes "party music" - newsflash- live music is made to make you move n groove.

GTFO. There is "real music" that isn't one guy with a beard and a guitar and it doesn't make me a non-"real music lover" if I want to get down with some funky, brassy party music from time to time from someone that isn't Rebirth twice a year.

The reason a lot of the younger crowd do not attend these things is just because they don't know about it. If it is a well advertised show, there will be a good crowd given that it isn't on an unreasonable night for students or professionals. Concert advertising in Baton Rouge is horrible. Most people aren't going to go look it up themselves, most of them hear about them from word of mouth or Facebook.

I mean I would find out about most Chelsea's and Spanish Moon shows from flyers on a pole next to ZeeZee's. As lame as it sounds, concert venues need to advertise on Facebook more. It's free and allows a wide variety of users that will see it. Even if it isn't music they are interested in, they still see it and it gets implanted in their mind. Mud & Water was great about advertising their shows and also having a somewhat street team sharing the show announcements. KLSU does some decent advertising but in an age where the radio is slowly becoming obsolete, it isn't reaching as many people as it should.

I probably worded that wrong. People that value good songwriters come out to the shows where good songwriters play, telling stories.

"Song lovers" is probably what I should have said than music lovers.

So what came of this? Did we decide that BR's Open Mic Night is greater than NO's Open Mic night?

Nothing other than jimmies being rustled because nobody wants to go watch a hipster read his poetry while rarely hitting a single bongo.

Songwriter night? Makes me yawn just thinking about it.

Juke joint jubilee? Do I need a pearl snap shirt and Wrangler jeans to attend?

I know, but the LSU connection commonly had 'em labeled as a Baton Rouge band. In fact, the first time I saw them (in Houston) they were introduced as just that.

Where are y'all at during all the badass weekly songwriter nights that happen all over the city.

Songwriters in the round every Wednesday at Chelsea's
Juke Joint Jubilee every Thursday at red star
Red dragon does a songwriter night every Wednesday

So where are y'all?

It's just not typically a style of music I enjoy much. Now, original rock bands with complex compositions would excite me.
