This soccer stuff is not so hard after all.
I even get offsides.
Kidding, offside, I know.

I know it's risky to ask questions here
Ask questions in whatever in game thread is going on. They still get answered and don't clutter up the board for the soccer board regulars. At least, that's what I do.

How many world cups would we win if we had the Miami Heat playing
I can see how that would seem a silly question to soccer folks but for us just jumping on board, it does seem to be a great what if. I can see why people would ask that. Not the Miami heat per se but some of the other insanely great athletes that play other sports. I won't dare ask though.

Assuming this result holds, think of the Spain-Australia match coming up like an NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB regular season game between two teams that have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

WC > regular season
My guess would be about not wanting to go ofer in this case and for pride of country. In this instance, there's no way Spain wants to be tagged with losing to the Aussies.

Because you're being polite, I'll explain.
It would be hard for most NBA athletes to play soccer, because of their respective height/coordination as it relates to keeping possession of a ball. Even someone like Chris Paul would be considered one of the taller players at the World Cup.
Right now, we have an incredibly athletically gifted team compared to the rest of the world. We just haven't developed the technical ability that other countries can boast of having. Spain won three major tournaments with a bunch of 5'9 players who are wizards with the ball at their feet. Lionel Messi is 5'7 but one of the most physically gifted athletes in the world.

I can see that.
But Shaq in goal...that's money.
I kid, I kid.

I dont want to rehash that thread because i feel like we've moved on. But there is a difference between a question like "What is their motivation for playing" and "when is our next game". One requires discussion, one require a little effort to look up. To continue to act like i want you to google every question you have, is disingenuous on your part.

I caught shite for not recognizing Ronaldo's old fat arse and for calling Clint Dempsey a loser for trying to make a serious rap CD
This place is hectic, but I'm sticking around.

Again, that wasn't my only question. Are you trying to be daddy again? Telling the kids to quit playing around?
Posted on 6/18/14 at 3:22 pm to roadGator
To tell you the truth a NBA player with the body of a Kevin Garnett have the size and lankiness for a GK.
But just like any other sport its all about how you train, and some people are just naturally gifted at one or the other. Their is 0% guarantee that if you are a great athlete in one sport it will carry over to the next. We all saw MJ play baseball.

Assuming Spain is out after the match today, what in the world is their motivation to play the third match and doesn't that third team get a huge advantage because Spain could come out unmotivated?
Hypothetically this could be an issue. However, in this group, both the Netherlands and Chile will have 6 while Spain and Australia will have 0. Mathematically, both of the latter two teams are already eliminated.
Spain v. Australia would be meaningless. For Spain, the only motivation would be to play some of the younger guys, get some experience, and take something positive away from the Cup.

What if Pat Summitt was the coach?
Just kidding Mr. Hester...

And what makes it interesting is the last game in each group are played at the same time so that two teams can't collude or frick around if the result in the other match effects their standing.
It was tense as hell last WC when the USA was playing Algeria and and England was playing Slovenia and the last minute Donovan goal meant the USA went from going home to winning the group in the span on 30 seconds.
I love when the group results come down to the last two matches - except for the USA's group. I want us to be locked in after match two.
Good question, BTW. We don't mind questions about the nuances or details of the tournament. It's the dumb "WHAT IF LEBRON WAS OUR GOALIE?" or "NO ONE SCORES, THIS IS BORING, MAKE THE GOAL BIGGER!" crap that we get bitchy about.

This. Feel free to ask real questions. Just don't come in trying to change the game or make statements about why we'd be better if (insert person with no experience with the sport here) played.
