Please Educate Me On The Situation In Iraq

I understand the ISIS is basically steamrolling the country, heading towards Baghdad. The Iraqi troops have fled. Is there a chance or is their military scared and inept? Are we going to have to bomb the frick out of that country to save the government's arse? Is their own military capable and organized enough to actually retake their country?

Total chaos, with people running wild and posting on the wrong boards

We are watching a new war start. Possibly with a larger scope than the last 10 years

This is the best explanation I found so far. The middle east is beyond fricked up.
ISIS alone will never be able to capture all of Iraq, but if the country descends once again into sectarian war, its ultimate goal will be that much closer. “Sectarian civil war is the enabler,” says Jessica Lewis, an ISIS expert at the Institute for the Study of War. “They want to set conditions in Iraq that look like Syria so they can set up an Islamic state.”

1. Everything our military worked so hard for since 2003 is now going to shite.
2. Our commander in chief doesn't even have enough military knowledge to win a game of battleship.
3. All those "Syrian rebels" we had to help are now fricking Iraq up
4. Iraquis will probably now be worse off then they were under Sadam.

The United States and Iran could possibly become allies over this. Considering the recent tension between the 2 countries, this should show you the severity.

The Iraqi Army has rallied and did have some success but there was also a mass execution of Iraqi soldiers to the tune of 270ish. Both sides seem to have lost significant numbers today.
An interesting point is how good ISIS videos are in terms of picture quality, sound and editing. Every other terrorist video looks like it was filmed with a potato and edited by a 3 year old using a microwave. These guys are different.
Finally, they've been described as "too extreme for al Qaeda" and that's sort of true. They were al Qaeda allies but many other groups in Syria were as well and those other groups were a bit more ideologically aligned with al Qaeda.
The most interesting aspect is perhaps what Iran will do and how we might interact with Iran. ISIS is a Sunni group and Iraq and Iran are Shia majority. This makes Iran very uncomfortable as they were in a good spot with a Shia like al Maliki as president of a stable and somewhat secular Iraq.

It seems pretty chaotic.
Side note: Muslim extremists sure do love to document their murders.

But we need stable oil routes, especially since Obama keeps shooting down Keystone.
