Ok... I'll ask you the same question I keep asking and cannot seem to get anyone to answer. If we do nothing and ISIS succeeds in bringing about the collapse of Iraq, what will this mean to the world?

If you'll notice, ISIS has taken areas inhabited by Kurds and Shias and rogue killed through them, but these groups were the minorities. The real fighting will begin in South Baghdad.

Care to elaborate? Handcuffing rules of engagement? Mountains of paperwork and interviews after firing shots?

A privatized military not answering to nimrods would be the only solution

Because the ISIS is primarily a Sunni organization. Which the Kurds are pretty safe in their enclave in the north as ISIS has turned it's eye towards Baghdad. As we speak the Shias are rallying to militias and the army to try and stop ISIS. In addition to these militias, Iran is sending help to the Iraqi government in the form of special forces and i believe supplies. As things stand now, it looks like the situation is up in the air and could go either way. The only thing that is for sure is that unless something changes, there is about to be a massive battle in Baghdad. The future direction of the middle east very well may be decided there.

Perhaps not full blown allies but something we might work with them on.

Which is interesting still because our long standing alliance with Saudi Arabia, who is a major regional rival with Iran.

You better believe chickens are coming home to roost.

ISIS is also ramping up and it won't be an overnight thing. At this point they won't have anything for the old Jayish AL Mahadi Army if it is reformed overnight (which it was designed to do upon it's disbandment / transformation into the promised day brigades)we'll be talking about Militia #s in the tens of thousands (close to 30,000) within a short amount of time. It'll probably have a new name but will have the same members.

How an arrest in Iraq revealed Isis's $2bn jihadist network

quote:

"We were all amazed and so were the Americans," a senior intelligence official told the Guardian. "None of us had known most of this information."

quote:

"By the end of the week, we soon realised that we had to do some accounting for them," said the official flippantly. "Before Mosul, their total cash and assets were $875m [£515m]. Afterwards, with the money they robbed from banks and the value of the military supplies they looted, they could add another $1.5bn to that."

They're receiving boatloads of Al-Qaeda $$ too, which is odd because they cut Al-Zarqawi's funds off due to rogue killing of other muslims (Shias) in Iraq years ago..

That's not artillery. That's a T-55 main battle tank variant. It's obsolete as hell. We feasted on them during Desert Storm. They literally were as helpless against us as if they were shooting spit wads... and that's in the few instances were they managed to get a shot off. And while I don't think the Iraqi army has any M1A1's like we did, the T-55 is also highly vulnerable to two man RPG teams as well.

Understood. They reported yesterday on Face the Nation that there was a lot of stinger missiles in Mosul when it was captured. They could do some serious damage with those.

These ISIS guys are going to wreck shop in the Battle of Baghdad. 1.5 billion in assets can do a lot of damage.

The ammo of an Abrams is stored seperate from the crew... here is a picture that shows the ammo rack....

(note the ammo is pointing backwards away from the crew compartment)

The ammo rack is designed that even if it catches fire and rounds start too cook off, the crew can survive. Here is a youtube video that shows how it works...

Looks like on top of being stupid enough to leave their hatches open, the loader was also stupid enough to keep a round or two right there next to him. We use to call that "lap loading" as the loader kept a round in his lap. It allows for faster reload (since he does not have to open the ammo door and remove a round) but it makes you VERY vulnerable if there is a fire.

Sorry if asked, but did this ISIS operation sneak up on US intelligence?

Was there someone telling us to look out for them?
