I've already figured it would cost the 2015 1st to move Gordon. If we could do Gordon + 2015 1st for a 2014 1st without taking back a bad contract, that's a good move in my book.
i think Gordon has a breakout year. i'd hate that trade

Well the thing about giving up future picks is this: How many players is that team away from becoming a legit team?
In other words, if you only have a serious need at 1 position and could get a guy that you want at that spot... giving up a future pick isnt a bad idea. If you have a team where you have serious needs at multiple spots, it might be a bad idea.
The way I see it, we already have our franchise player in AD who has a shot to be an all time great. We already have a really good young PG in Holiday. We have got a versatile player that can play the 1,2, or 3 in Tyreke and he really came on hot in the last month once Monty figured out how to use him. And we have our sharp shooter / mismatch in Anderson.
We are a 3 and a 5 away from being a really really good team. If we can address 1 of those needs in this draft by giving up a future pick, Im all for it. The 5 position is such a crapshoot in the draft IMO. I would rather address the 5 in FA if possible. I would take a proven player in the NBA at the 5 position over a 18-19 year old draft pick that played 1 year in college.
And I would love it if we are able to somehow dish Gordon and get anything in return.

It would be sweet to send out Eric Gordon for Tyson Chandler if the Knicks start blowing stuff up when Melo leaves.
Doubt something that nice would ever happen.
Holiday
Evans
FA SF
Davis
Chandler
Rivers and Anderson off the bench
Maybe buy a late pick to find a SF project.

I'm not sure if the Knicks want anything to do with Gordon. It seems like whether they keep Melo or not, they'd want cap space in 2015
Posted on 6/14/14 at 11:16 pm to TigerinATL
They probably don't, but they screwed themselves on the Melo/Stoudemire experiment. Maybe they would like to add some more young talent to help better attract someone down the line.

If we traded Gordon and a future pick to someone with cap space for a pick; wouldn't that leave us with decent cap space to sign a decent C? Assuming we would draft a SF this year?
Posted on 6/15/14 at 12:27 am to Lambchops11
potentially enough to sign a C to the max

I think if we draft, it should be a SF > C.
If we somehow got the King's #8 pick for EG + next year's 1st (This is going off the assumption they still want someone who could come in and help now rather than later), you could possibly have a pick of:
Doug McDermott
Dario Saric
Rodney Hood
TJ Warren
Kyle Anderson
Seriously, not many pickings at C, most are better for SF, but half of them are reaches at 8.
This would have been a nice year to get a PG/SG though if we needed one.

reach or not, Gordon is gone and we have dollars to add talent to an already solid roster. Anything we get in the draft is lagniappe. Its a cheap contract, for a piece that could develop, or be traded in the future.
sign me the frick up.

Trade Eric Gordon, Draft Aaron Gordon. #LifeHack

You talking about fans or the team? I get it for fans. For the team, I have some reservations. It's all about Davis and the long game, not instant gratification. The team has few moveable assets right now and hardly any cap space before 2016. Any move that further restricts them is likely a bad one for me.
If there's a way to move Gordon and relieve cap pressure or get useable pieces, great. I hope they find that deal, but I doubt it exists. Far better to just let Gordon expire than take back a limiting deal.

I agree. Who knows? Maybe he would resign on a decent contract. People are irrational with Gordon, though. They want to get rid of him at all costs, which is how bad decisions are made.

(from Jester)They want to get rid of him at all costs, which is how bad decisions are made.
The thing is, the team would benefit greatly from adding another B player to the roster, and the best opportunity to do that by a large margin is with cap space before AD's extension kicks in. C assets are easy to acquire, so I would give up any and all of our C assets if it lead to getting a B asset, and for the most part getting a B asset means getting rid of Gordon at all costs (up to C level assets).
But what these rumors are suggesting to me isn't desperation by Demps, but Demps smelling an opportunity. Half the lottery wants to trade their picks which lowers the value, while the inflated value of the 2015 picks are still untarnished and intact. On top of that both the trade and FA market for SG is pretty thin this year, opening up a potential window for Gordon to be overvalued by a team.

Just because people are irrational, doesn't mean they're wrong. Morrow + Rivers for $6-$7 > Gordon for $6-$7 IMO. Those 2 players give you better scoring, shooting, penetration and defense than Gordon alone.

The problem is that Morrow can't defend and you can't count on Rivers offensively. Gordon gives you some balance of the two, so I'm not sure that I agree with your assessment.
ETA - Shedding Gordon is one thing. Taking back a longer bad contract is something entirely different. Demps' history doesn't give me a good feeling about that.
