I don't know what it is about sportswriters, but the good ones always seem to turn into terrible, petty people who vastly overstate the importance of both sports and themselves. Simmons, Rick Reilly, Peter King -- seems to happen to everyone.

Yeah bill simmons sucks. i have no idea who he is or why he is on tv. espn's entire panel is awful. these guys are supposed to be the best in sports tv, yet tnt is a millions times better.

Jalen rose does a good job to me, but you can tell he wants to get up inside of sage steele pretty much the whole show

a few weeks ago michelle beadle was hosting in place of sage steele and the difference in the vibe of the show was dramatic. Beadle was fun, she kept the mood light, she cracked jokes and the guys played off of her in a very natural way

I dont care for sage steele in her role, I think she is too stiff and that makes Collins and Simmons seem stiff as well.

That said. I prefer his ramblings with cousin sal during FB season, gambling, above anything else

Yeah those are hilarious because it shows how little Simmons knows about football. Especially when he doesn't have Lombardi to correct him 50 times

Based on the couple of minutes I've accidentally watched pre and post game stuff, I agree with this.

I choose to not watch any of that garbage, to be quite honest. If it was just Doug Collins and someone like George Karl, I'd maybe change my tune. I don't need to hear Jalen Rose yelling at me and Simmons throwing out cliché after cliché containing zero substance.

Can't stand Simmons. He is probably the best NBA historian out there, but beyond that he doesn't seem to know shite. His takes on the current goings on around the league are usually inane crackpot theories that take HUGE unsupported assumptions to be valid.

That and the roster moves he suggests for teams are unbelievably bad.

ehh.... as much as he knows he still has some pretty wildly slanted crap in his "historical" musings. His take on Wilt is blatantly tainted by his Celtics fandom.

Yea I should have qualified that his opinions on the Celtics need to be taken with the fact that he is a celtics homer

Agreed and you nailed it

She is way too serious for her role. Like you said, Beadle was awesome when she sat in. If ESPN is gonna use Rose and Simmons, they need someone like Beadle that can play off of them, in the same way Ernie Johnson does with Barkley and crew

Agreed. The only one who really brings anything to the table is Collins. The rest are just pretty crappy in my opinion.

He needs to stick to writing. Super awkward on TV and just doesn't have the personality for it IMO

Kinda agree with this. He knows his stuff but he's awkward.

But if they're going to have him on TV, let him talk.

He's good on his podcasts when he's has on someone like Chuck Klosterman and they can ramble about the JFK assassination or when he's bullshitting with Sal, Jacko or House.

And I actually like him more talking about other sports. When it comes to basketball, I think he's convinced himself that he's actually a part of the game or that he has real infulence in the league.

The fact that ESPN's show is so scripted that Bill doesn't get a chance to talk for 8 minutes is a problem. Their format of guys giving half arse cookie cutter analysis is stale. If you're going tohhave guys like Bill and Jalen on the show you have to let them ramble and debate like TNT does.

Simmons is like the best mainstream sports columnist out there that puts out weekly material. He isn't bad on TV, he has a more every man/fan perspective which I enjoy. Than some washed up douchebag player or worse, 4 time fired coach.

Are you implying you'd rather listen to Simmons talk basketball than Doug Collins?
