Makes the Beats acquisition understandable. Now you''ll have to buy a new pair of headphones/earbuds with the Lightning jack. Some benefits, many drawbacks.
Buh-bye headphone jack

So glad I made the switch to Samsung. I'd be pissed if I was still with iPhone, and just paid for my Bose headphones.

Guess they're not into getting new converts, and are instead focusing on squeezing their loyal fans as much as possible.
It'll probably work well.

If every proprietary headset doesn't have a lightning pass through so you can charge your phone and listen to headphones at the same time, this will be monumentally stupid.

This is....weird. So you can't use headphones while you charge? I'm sure there's a way around this....

Man, they had me committed after WWDC, now this shite? I might be getting the new moto x instead.
Of course, nothing's official yet but it sounds legit.

Just makes my irrational hatred for Apple more justifiable.

I doubt we will see them getting rid of the headphone jack for some time to come. The guy that wrote this article even says this in the comments of the article. Until it actually happens, just add this to the rumor pile.
I am sure if this happens and the manufacturers jump to make a new standard to replace 3.5mm, the reactions in here will be much different.

i can see the need to get rid of 3.5mm jack, it has its limits.
But we need a standard for this, not apple dictating it. So you can have one device that works in different places.

You've been able to get knock offs of the old Apple USB cable for > $5 at Amazon for years now. As long as they plan to hold onto lighting for at least a decade, price shouldn't be that big of an issue in the long run. I think the bigger problem is you are removing an input port from the device. Sure you can have a pass through, but those are often bulky and less secure than a native port.
