Cake baker loses appeal... Must bake for all people

Today, Colorado's Civil Rights Commission ruled that Phillips did violate civil rights law by doing so. A judge found the same in December; today's seven-member panel just agreed.
Will he take this to an appeals court?
quote:
"I will stand by my convictions until somebody shuts me down," he told the AP after the ruling. But the Commission says he has to bake for everyone now. Phillips owns the Masterpiece Cakeshop in the Denver suburb of Lakewood and is a self-identified devout Christian.

fricking ridiculous... A private business should be able to choose who it wants to do business with.
And this is coming from a pro-gay marriage person.

Well so much for freedom in the pot smokin state

Is there some law to prohibit him from charging say $100 for a cake for a man-woman marriage and $1,000 for a same sex marriage?

Who was on here it the other day that said Christians don't experience persecution for their beliefs?

Interesting take to say the least....
"You cannot refuse to make a profit!"

Honest question.. How can he be forced? Sometimes places are way too busy at times to take on added work. Can't he just use that excuse?

Freedom of association continues to be assaulted.
If same sex people want to run around and pretend they're married, I'm not going to stand in their way.
I will never personally view them as married however.
Maybe he should offer 'faux wedding cakes' to same sexers, and wedding cakes exclusively to heteros.
They would be the same thing but the order form and the bill would clearly be labeled 'faux wedding cake'. They can't tell him what to name his product.

That's probably going to be ugliest wedding cake ever.

Here is one issue I have if businesses were allowed to pick and choose...
What if society chose to hate a very small minority of people.
Say, people over 6'9" tall.
Refusing to serve those people will not hurt their business at all. And a business owner who chooses to serve them will not get a bunch of extra business... so he doesn't have much to gain.
So now, people over 6'9" theoretically cannot get groceries, food, clothing, etc. if society decides they are the devil.

If forced to bake these people a cake I would comply. But I assure you it would be the last cake they ever purchased from me. No I wouldn't harm anyone, but that would be the worst cake they have ever eaten.

How do dress codes fit into all of this? Is it ok for restaraunts to refuse service because of a person's choice in clothing? People of dress a certain way because of the lifestyle they live.

It's funny that Christians have taken the gay issue to rally against. This baker isn't refusing jewish cakes, Muslim, or buddhist which are against his religion also.
The religious freedom argument goes out the window when your are cherry picking which parts to follow.
Hell its mentioned eight times in the bible you shouldnt eat shellfish. Yet I don't see anyone refusing to bake a cake for a cajun wedding.
If a woman walks in 6 months pregnant she didn't get refused for a wedding cake even though sex before marriage is wrong.
Refusing service to homosexuals is hate plain and simple

Is anyone in the world more obsessed with gay people than darkhorse?

I've said this before and I don't know if it would be legal, but can't he simply call his bakery a bakery club and charge one dollar for membership. Then once it's private, deny membership to anyone he wants?

What if he just charges a shite-ton more for "rainbow" themed cakes?
Too passive aggressive?
