Black - and only black. It's absurd to use other labels these days IMO. We're all mutts at the end of the day, some just display it physically more than others.
90% of black people don't give two sh*ts about being called AA, just as 90% of crackers don't give two sh*ts about being called European American. The subgroup that does care, however, and it's very evident here in Texico is "Mexican American". There is a huge group of Americans with latin heritage particularly in the South which are only one generation away from being full Mexican.
Plus, why are there any freaking labels anyway? Why can't we just be people without distinction.

I bet you it's on the "Stuff White People Like" site. I'll check when I get home.

I guess you haven't read the thread. It doesn't offend me, but it seems silly and might lead me to believe that you're trying to ingratiate yourself with me of something.
I didn't read before - I see that the consensus in this thread is "Black is Beautiful" or to quote James Brown, "Say it loud, 'I'm black and I'm proud.'" (People look at me funny when I sing the chorus of that last song, spontaneously, me being whiter than sour cream.)

You know, brother - we might live long enough that this won't matter a hill of beans - it will be a good thing - perhaps we'll all look like Daniel Sunjata or Halle Berry.
The ideal look that TV executives look for these days is the ambiguous look that can't be pinned down, because these folks can be all things to all people. Think Kiran Chetry, Alex Wagner and Soledad O'Brien.

I sure as hell don't call white people Caucasian Americans!

Then how would you distinguish the real Americans (eg. Choctaw, Seminole, Apache, Sioux, etc.) from the rest of us.

Nope. It is absurd to use any term xxx American. YOu are either American or not, period.

Black. I don't like hyphenated American names. I don't use any of them. If you're an American, you're an American. It doesn't matter to me where your ancestors came from. The more identified we become by group, the less an American identity/culture flourishes.

I say black, no American should have a pre-fix.
If you act timid at all when you say black the PC police will jump all over you. My only recommendation is not to use a bad tone and refer to them collectively as "the blacks"

Ideally, that's the way it would have always been, but unfortunately, the founders of this country made distinctions in this area, at least with regards to Black A,ericans and Native Americans.

American if they are one, whatever nationality they are if they are not. I don't feel the need to break it down more then that, maybe male or female if it matters to the conversation.
