I have a 7 year old Chevy 4x4. I get around 18 mpg.

I would like something with better fuel economy......but my rig is paid for and hasn't given me any trouble. In a few years I'll get a Volvo XC70 or Subaru Outback.

My wife's car gets 35mpg.

I enjoyed your post. It makes a lot more sense than folk who drive jacked up rigs getting 8MPG just cuz they ain't poor. BUT there are a lot of small vehicles that also suck - I drive a Yukon that gets 15MPG; my fiance drives a shitty little Passat that gets 22. If I were driving something that much smaller and worse than my car I would need better than 32% in gas savings. If I were spending $30k on a car tomorrow, I would look hard at this Honda Accord Hybrid.

My 2011 Challenger R/t Six speed gets 16 city and 24 hwy. Real world stats.

My 2009 Chevy truck gets around 14 city 17 hwy.

I can get 400 plus miles out of the Challenger and 325 out of the truck per tank.

Sierra running premium. Usually around 4 dollars in Texas 3.75 in Louisiana. If you can afford to drive it then don't worry about it. If money is sometimes tight then look at more economical choices.

My 2012 Expedition gets 15-16 mpg, I got in an accident at the end of March and it's been in the shop so lately I've been driving our 2002 BMW M Roadster until I get my car back and I average 13mpg and use 93 octane. I don't really notice it though because if I did I'd just get frustrated over nothing. Now I just pump and go, I couldn't tell ya what gas prices are truthfully.

6.2L calls for it. It definitely runs better with higher octane.

Premium is an extra 4-6 dollars overall.

When is that going to break anyone? Run premium. Your engine will love you.

It runs about a $8-8.50 difference at an average of $.45 over Regular. 18.6 gallon tank.

I have tank anxiety so it's rare it sees less than half a tank. I really need to burn everything that's in there probably.

This is coming from someone who runs premium currently, but buying premium when your car doesn't call for it is literally pissing away money. Premium is for high compression engines and if you use a lower octane fuel in it your high compression engine will run rough and knock. Cars that only need 87 WILL NOT BENEFIT from running 93. You won't get any more performance, your car won't run better, and it won't last longer. You are simply throwing away money.

It has nothing to do with breaking the bank. Modern engines are designed to optimally run whatever the factory recommended grade is. If your vehicle calls for regular, you literally get zero benefit from running premium.

That's what I figured. You actually need it.

How often do you reset your average MPG? I caught mine @ 8 MPG the other day bc I had some a-hole dodge not want to let me over and I floor'd it. The longer you leave it the harder it is to get your average up (obviously).

When I first got it I manipulated it to show my wife how good MPG it gets. Reset it @ 65 MPH going downhill on 55 and sent her a pic. "See! 28 MPG"

So yeah, you're not poor and you can drive 1000 miles a week in a truck that gets 8 mpg. Wow. That truck is your stone head statue and you must be, like those ancient chieftains, very proud. I am duly impressed with your $$ and your truck, but your myopia and lack of vision is utterly disappointing. Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it or something. I say the less money I give the man, the better.

This.

I'm far from a tree hugger but I do think that if we all did a little more to help the environment we'd be a lot better off. Nothing lifestyle changing. Just a little more. Some people NEED trucks and I get that. Most just want one for the image when they pull up at the office.
