Yes, and last year the saints had completely upgraded the LB's and depth at D'Line to play a 34 defense. Then training camp happened, and how many IR's did we have. Let's get through training camp before we start saying who's on the roster.

Moore didn't have 60 catches last season; he had 37 for 457 yards.

Those actually should have been two separate statements. Lance Moore is gone. I don't mean to say that he was worth 60 catches and 8+ TDs. I just mean that many are expecting the addition of Cooks to be some huge boost to our offense worth around this much. I merely state that I wouldn't expect 60 catches and 8+ TDs from a rookie WR. People either do not comprehend how difficult the transition to the NFL at the WR position or they deliberately over-inflate projected numbers.

60 catches and 8+ TDs from Cooks would be very difficult. Here's some Saints rookie numbers in comparison-

Kenny Stills: 32 catches, 5 TDs.
Devery Henderson: 22 catches, 2 TDs.
Jimmy Graham: 31 catches, 5 TDs.

Among the NFL's elites as rookies:

Calvin Johnson 48 catches, 4 TDs.
A.J. Green: 65 catches, 8 TDs.
Brandon Marshall: 20 catches, 2 TDs.
Josh Gordon: 50 catches, 5 TDs.

So while it could happen that Cooks gets these numbers and others have done it before, I reiterate that this is an unrealistic expectation. It's just so difficult to make a enormous impact as a rookie at that position. I'd say 30-40 catches and 4-5 TDs would be a nice year.

The running game can be problematic at times but I am encouraged a little bit. In games like Dallas and the wild card game in Philly we ran well when running straight ahead without the sweeps and runs to the edge. Between Ingram, PT, Robinson and Cadet, someone's got to stay healthy right? (Right?!?)

Will be close. Our offense took a nice dip last season and we basically have the same crew coming back.

Wat?

adding Cooks/Coleman will help a lot.

Plus Stills/Khiry will have another year under their belt and our O-line won't be struggling early like last year

While age of our offence is a issue Its also the fact that the other 31 teams have had eight years to break down CSP's offence. I think this is often over looked.

Now add a season to review Ryan's defense. Not sure that's as important though as D is mostly reactionary and isn't based on timing, etc.

What I came here to say is, we better develop a running game this season. Our passing game is getting shut down more frequently , while we have the defense to win those games we better be able to run the ball at those times or those games will be losses.

Cooks had 127 catches last year on the college schedule. That's insane. I don't expect him to catch 127 balls, but I expect him to be very productive.

Tl:Dr version- our defense is going to kick arse in 2014; our offense won't be the juggernauts of 2009 and 2011 (but it may not have to be).

I expect us to commit to the run game this year, and most of our off season moves and other news point to that. When that happens, you get 2009/2011 numbers.

This really is up there as the most stacked roster I've ever seen us have. This defense is gonna be brutal to opposing offenses.

Been watching since game 1.

On paper this team is as deep with talent as I've seen as well.

we went from 2nd and 3rd in points in 2011, 2012' to 10th last year.

I agree we have some young guys that will hopefully step up and improve that.

Aside from what others have commented on concerning our Oline/Center play, what did we do to improve our run defense? Our linebackers were pretty shoddy, heck they were pretty poor all around if we consider them in coverage as well.

I hope that Payton has much better play calls this season, I will blame last season on rust even though I don't believe that was the issue.

We look very good on paper though I will agree.

Not true. The ULL dorks on saintstreport believe that the greatest Saints rosters were when Jake the Snake Dellhomme was the backup.

Haralson played the run well it seemed like.

most of the teams are going to a nickel defense these days.

seems like.

and that can leave you suspect in the run game.

and really... even Seattle wasn't the best stop unit on run defense.

they seemed like they were more geared to destroy a pass happy offense.

I actually just deposited money into my sports book so that i could put money on us winning the super bowl. Should be a really nice payout.

Edit: ok so we're +2000 to win the super bowl
+1200 to win the NFC.

Also, they're giving us points at Atlanta. Think i'll have some of that as well.
