They also uncover a lack of discipline as well as corruption beginning with Supt, Taylor. It aired last night on the 10:00pm news.

LINK

quote:

More than a dozen teachers are ready to call it quits at just one local public school in East Baton Rouge Parish. Educators are saying the main reasons they're throwing in the towel are a lack of discipline and increasing violence inside the classrooms.

quote:

All three sat down with the I-team on the condition of concealing their identities, saying they fear retaliation. When asked if the teachers had ever been verbally abused by a student in their classroom, all three answered, "Yes." All three also said they had been physically assaulted by a student in their class.

quote:

"Joe" is calling it quits saying instead of him grading students on how they should be graded, administrators are dictating what grades he needs to hand out.

"Told me it was my fault that he has a failing grade, and that I should give him a "C," said Joe. "I was told that I had too many failing and not to fail their seniors."

When asked why, Joe said, "It looks bad on the school, and it goes against our school score."

quote:

Another teacher said those school performance scores take top priority and trump everything else.

"Well, when you talk about administrators, I think it's important to note that it comes from the top. It doesn't always come from our principals at our schools. They're handcuffed. They're puppets to Dr. Taylor, Dr. Ramos and Dr. Haggen," said Jane.

There are people who will tell you that we are better together, but what parent interested in their child's education would want their children to be part of that? I certainly wouldn't.

After reading this report maybe some might be able to get an idea of why many in EBR want a do over, they want to try it themselves, and they want their own separate school system apart from the corruption.

Don't get me wrong charter schools have their problems, but at least they have a choice...

I've had people in classes at LSU who went to woodlawn, mckinley, dutchtown, etc, who didn't know what a semicolon was. Not how to use one, just straight up didn't know what it was.

ETA: multiple instances, like over 10

I hear certain races of teachers are bullied by teachers of other races in EBR schools. I wonder the ethnicity of the quitting teachers?

And to think St. George wants to get away from all this.

But according to Russian and his ilk, everything is getting better in the school system. News reports like this, and this, are just one of many reasons why young families have been flocking to areas with better schools. Those that are fed up and want change are called racist and terrorists.

lesson do your best to get your kid to a private school in Louisiana (not including college). Public schools are horrible in this state and can't lead you to success like a private school does. This leads to a falling of standards across the board. If you have bad public schools than less qualified people make it to college, so teachers have to grade easy to keep up with the bell curve, colleges become easier to do well in and the standards keep going down and down. I hate the idea of public schools anyway they are usually less successful than private schools and they can really give a state budget issues.

Didn't Bobby pass the world's greatest education reform bill not long ago? How can this continue to be happening with such strong and just legislation standing against it? The entire story must, therefore, be a complete lie.

The EBR School system is even worse than everyone thought. The "improvement" that is often referenced is probably non-existent and all manufactured.

It is schools that are at the heart of the STG movement and this is the damning evidence as to why they should be given control of "their" shools ASAP but the idiots in charge are fighting as hard as they can possibly to prevent it.

Somebody should investigate the grades Obama was given when he was in school.

How do you put more disipline in public schools without the parents filing some ridiculous law suit? Louisiana needs to put their foot down and give the teachers more power inside the classroom. If a student hits a teacher they should be expelled and send to a military school. If a student fails, they fail. Quit handing out grades to pushing them through. Also, we should reward the better teachers with raises (no maximum salary) and be able to fire the bad teachers. It is getting absurd how bad some of these public schools are getting.

I know for a fact this happens outside of EBR also - in a school in a parish with supposedly better schools than EBR.
