I'm with Scruffy, Point of Impact is a great book, and I was a little disappointed by the adaptation. It wasn't terrible overall, but disappointing.
I must confess, I've seen Heat once, about ten years ago. I need to rewatch it.

Watching Shooter now.
The frustrating thing about it is that looks like it could have been a really good movie. But in the long run it took the lazy hackneyed and derivative route.
But yeah, it wasn't unwatchable.

This board has a giant hard on for all things Cuaron. If he filmed a turd this board would declare it art so long as it is done with a tracking shot. Children of Men is wonderful, but it isn't this transcendent piece of film that so many people claim it to be.
Usual Suspects is great and seeing it for the first time without knowing the twist or that there is one is a filmgoing experience, but again, it isn't all that wonderful.
Heat is also fantastic, but again is often over-lauded.
Shooter is just a fun movie.

Usual Suspects (for the police lineup alone)
Children of Men (for one of the best continuous shots ever)
Heat (for the great ensemble cast, although a little long)
