I was at that game. You must be about my age if you remember Hillman. I think I was a Senior in HS right before the Bert Jones years and collage. They used to have the Ole Miss game in B.R. one year and a double header in Jackson every second year. State and Bama played the other game. It rotated opponents. We used to get a car load of guys to drive over to the Jackson games. I even saw Manning play with the famous broken arm.

When I read it, I instantly thought of the attempted shovel pass to Ware in the BCSNCG.

He might as well have been. He certainly looked like he was using the wrong arm in some games.

To think he actually threw that with his actual throwing arm

Moonlight you have it right on. Hillman and that team should have had a shot at the NC if we beat the Rebs. Hillman the only true Tiger QB lefty that I recall other than Clausen who moved on to the Hillbillys and came back to beat us on that Monday Night game.

Ensminger(sp) was a lefty and pretty damn good. He used to split time with Woodley.

On second thought, I'm not so sure...

Yes, I was an LSU junior at the game in crazed student section. Hillman and Manning went at each other. Think that was the beginning of the Manning legend really. Bevan and Anderson chased him all over the field as we had the No. 1 rush D in the country but couldn't quite stop him. LSU blew out most everybody that year, 1 pt. win over Auburn I believe however. Great team.

Mike Hillman was terrific. He was also a very good runner until some knee problems slowed him. One of my favorite LSU quarterbacks of all, but he doesn't get mentioned much. I guess the younger fans just never had the chance to see him play.

Buddy Lee was also a pretty good quarterback (though he was a righty) back in the day.

In some folk's opinions, LSU's best team ever...
