I know Brees is far from being done, but he's no spring chicken. I hope the Saints start looking soon. It would be nice to get someone like Aaron Murray, to learn behind Brees.

I know its not a new topic, but do you guys think the Saints target a QB sooner rather than later?

Ugh.

Any QB good enough to replace Brees later will need to be drafted high. Doing so now would be a waste of a draft pick.

I believe it's all based on talent and value. If a guy is there that Paeyton believes is the perfect fit for his system and is available at a point that is considered a fall, then we will pick one. I personally don't know if there are any in this draft or not, but Murray is a name I have heard that fits here. Some say it's strictly because he is short, but I have no idea.

I do believe it's best to have the QB of future on the roster at this point in Brees' career, but only if the guy we draft is worth the pick. I don't think it's wise to draft a QB just for the sake of getting one as a just in case

Current depth chart:
Drew Brees, signed through 2016
Luke McCown, signed through 2014
Ryan Griffin, signed through 2015

Draft possibilities: This shouldn't be a high priority for the Saints in the draft. Brees should have at least three or four great years left in him -- if not more -- so it's too early for the Saints to invest heavily in a future replacement plan.

And the Saints like second-year pro Griffin, who will battle for the backup job this year and could potentially follow a career path like former Saints backup Chase Daniel. However, Sean Payton said recently the Saints are always on the lookout for talent at quarterback since it's the most important position on the roster. So if they see great value in a mid-round or late-round pick, it wouldn't be surprising to see them grab a young QB to battle Griffin for that role.

I'm not entirely convinced that Griffin lacks the talent to make it either.

His arm looked good in preseason

The thing for me, is that our offense doesnt require a QB to have to have all the prototypical "physical tools" that a lot of NFL systems do.

What this Sean Payton offense needs is a guy that is very accurate and very smart. He needs to be able to do a lot of pre snap reads and checks. And once its snapped, make the proper read and be decisive with them. Get the ball out quick.

Because of the system that we run, Brees will be able to play longer than most people realize. And, that allows us a lot of freedom when ti comes to finding our QB after Brees. And its obvious we like Ryan Griffin a lot. The Rams and Bears both wanted to sign him from our practice squad when they were in need of a QB, but we promoted him to the game roster to block them from doing that. We wouldnt have done that if we didnt like him or think he can be the guy for the future.

But, we will see. We dont need to do anything right now, but we could. Who knows.

But anywho
Like it has been said before most vets don't "train or teach" the rookies that's the coaches job. Why would you help the guy trying to take your job?
