Nothing comes between Southerners and tradition, it doesn't matter how bad things get.

How about free drinks. He will jump on that.

Lawd no! The last thing we need to do is feed that big ego.

If hanagriff ever takes over I will make sure to point out every mistake he makes.

You want him for baseball and someone else for football? Guess we will need a third one for basketball?

When we made the last out of the game, Hawthorne said, "And that retires the side." Huh.

I started a thread about Hawthorne doing this before and some of the stupid people on the rant didn't seem to get what I was talking about. It's a terrible call from Hawthorne.

I've now realized that I hate people who hate Jim Hawthorne. Even with the Jack Hunt debacle. I don't care. It's never been tough to follow the guy and his voice is familiar.

So go frick yourself. Jim is the greatest.

Would Brando decline? Probably, but he is in his 60's and might be ready to chill. Would be a good gig do football and basketball if he wants and still has his radio show.

Give baseball to Charlie

Please no. I don't think he has a good enough voice to be the permanent play by play guy for LSU. He does not make the game sound exciting at all (IMO), regardless of how factually accurate he is.

Agree hawthorne isnt best we can do. I like charlie ALOT but my problem w/ him is that we he reacts to a MAJOR play his excitement sounds feigned and awkward.

I know this would never happen but i would love to see the role shared by charlie and gordy. The years they did the post game show together were epic. They complement each other well. Knowledgeable and entertaining

Hawthorne does screw up sometimes and it's usually pretty entertaining, but I don't think errors that he quickly corrects are ruining the game for me. Also, it is pretty hard to see angles & judge distance from the press box. They don't have the benefit of the close-up camera like we do watching on tv.

I felt he did pretty well on one of the most confusing ends to a game that I can remember - LSU vs Tennessee 2010 (football). While the tv guys were showing the final score and talking about the bad snap for a solid minute & a half before the ref made announcement and alerted them to the flag, Hawthorne had been talking about it the whole time & even guessed the right penalty "too many men on the field." I personally know of many people who turned off their tv & never saw the end of the game, but if you had had the radio on you would have known something was still going down.

It doesn't completely excuse some of his more egregious errors but it's something. And I do love the emotion in his voice - whether good or bad - because it totally reflects OUR emotions & connects the announcers to the fanbase.

Hawthorne call of LSU vs Tennessee
