another example is the final out friday against ole miss where fraley tracked it down in the gap. that balls goes off the wall and we're tied in the 13th.

So Skip Bertman does not know what he's talking about, either? For CPM to consider bringing in the fences, he has to be fairly certain the changes won't amount to much.
No, that's not why they are saying these things publicly. They want as close to the "old way" as possible and are not content with a small adjustment. So what are they doing? Putting down the ball change as insignificant and not enough in order to keep up pressure to get more changes they want.

Unfortunately, if the balls have the desired effect, LSU will be hurt in the short term because of our recruiting in response to the existing conditions. The NCAA really needs to quit jacking with the competitive balance of the sport.

he said it won't have that much effect....not that it will have zero effect
guys much more qualified than mainieri have done studies on the effects seams have. basically a ball that travels 375 ft will travel 400 ft. Now, you be the judge on how significant that is. In most people's eyes, that's pretty significant.

if he had a hitting coach we would have more hits.

With the speed of our outfield, if they bring the fences in, no fly ball will ever find grass.

well first it's the bats, now the balls, now it's the lineup,so seems to me good coaches over come problems?

Well if all you judge a coach on is winning national titles, then there is only one good coach in the SEC. I wonder who that would be?

What has happened is that scouts have adjusted and are pulling more of the best hitters from high school since that has become much easier to evaluate. Pitching is just the opposite. It's tougher for scouts and some of the best HS pitchers are ending up in college. So not only is the equipment forcing things one way, the talent on the field is also.
You made this up

That 20' is certainly a big difference. If that is in play this year then Sean Mcmullen is sitting at 10 HRs
Kade Scivique is close to 10 HRs as well
Ibarra is at somewhere between 7 to 10 HRs
That's not counting line drives in the gap that aren't being knocked down earlier. Think about all of the balls we have blasted off the bat into the gap that end up being caught.
20' will make a significant difference next year. It probably gives us a couple more wins this year as well. It really sucks that a guy like Mcmullen won't be here next year to benefit from that extra distance.
I didn't even mention/think about Chinea. He'd have at least 5 and probably would be in the lineup more.

That was from a scout I spoke to at the Ark series on Friday night.

Nothing apparently according to you. So I guess there are no good coaches at all in this league?

Smaller seams also means pitchers can't spin the ball as well. It will be huge as summer sets in and the ball gets a little sweaty.
