What's the easiest or most forgiving cut of meat for a first time smoke? Have a webber kettle and lots of lump/charcoal and lots of time this weekend to give it a try.
Also, any other uses for an oil free turkey fryer besides turkeys?

Something easy like a burger or hotdog. But really you're gonna be so hungry it doesn't matter. Just get a bunch of Cheetos and lil Debbie's.

Chicken leg quarters, sausage, boudin.
I've thrown ribs, pork loins, and a ham in one. Been I while since I've used it.

boston butt or pork shoulder roast (bone in)

For my first one I did a butt. Took way longer than I expected. 10+ hours. I wouldn't recommend that as a starter. I did a chicken cut in half this past weekend and it came out great in 3 hours.

Watch the BBQ with Franklin you tube videos, follow them exactly and you'll be eating some good BBQ and impressing your freinds.
I guess I am in the rarity that I've had the most success with briskets since buying a smoker last year

Talk to R2R. He's pretty good at smoking with the kettle.
I have the WSM, so it's a little different. But I started with Boston Butt.
If I were you, I'd go with half a chicken or something. Brine them birds too!
